This is another ongoing project...

But the basics, The car was bought in June this year after being sat in a garden for around a year with no Tax or Mot and in a rather sorry state. But with a Full service history and 81k on the clock I could not say no.

First job was a good wash and polish to remove all the moss and mould.

then to Remove the "Rude Boi Install"

I then got it mot'd and it made the 460 mile trip to Castle Combe and back

Shortly after this the 1.3 Bottom end died! so it was either rebuild or a bigger engine conversion....After about 27 seconds thought i found a local 106 GTI 1.6 16v engine and it was time to say bye to the 1.3

Along with the bigger Engine a the front brake setup was fitted from a 206 GTI

To finish off with for now how it currently looks

The first Major test for the car will be the trackday i have booked at Cadwell Park on the 11th November, Should be interesting as its still running standard suspension.

Thanks For Your Time Chris!

16v S1 Rallye, the king of 106s biggrin

Regarding subs in track cars, my mate has got a bike carbed 205 GTI 1.9 with cage and buckets, with a sub sat underneath the cage. knows why.

I love these, especially in white with the steel wheels.

I was embarassed by a Rallye one evening when, thinking it was a stock 106, I thought I could destroy it by being lazy and leaving the car in third.

Looks good clap

I've had mine for almost 7 years now and I still think it a great little car. I did the afternoon session at the track day at Oulton Park in it today. It was great fun, may could have done with more power on the straigts, but was great round the bends and mines standard apart from S2 wheels and a lower brace.

Cool cars.

Love it! Brings back memories of my S1 Rallye I used for trackdays a good few years back, proper drivers car that! Its just such a great looking car, although I do prefer the looks of the S2 theres just a rawness about the S1 that comes through. Just wish that manufacturers made cars like this nowadays.

Looking good. Still can't believe you stumbled across this one!

Did you tidy up the engine before you fitted it or did it come like that? Looks pretty mint with those rocker covers and shiny manifold heatshield!

What an absolutely brilliant car - still miss mine.

Almost wish I hadn't sold it, but needed a bit more pace on the straights, and going on 5k revs on the motorway was tedious..

Thinking of getting another -and either TB the 1.3, or do as you did with the GTI engine for a bit of added poke..

Definitely needs the Grp N exhaust as the first mod IMHO. Nice and cheap for tyres too! AO-48s?

Wow what a find..
I`ve a real soft spot for little Pugs/Citroen/french hatches.
I once built a Talbot Samba Grp N/A rally car which shared most parts with a Peugeot 104.It looked fairly standard to start with and was great for destroying XR2`s and 3`s.People just did`nt know what it was.

Well the Cadwell trackday did not go to plan, By 11am id damaged both driveshafts and the diff so called it a day.

On the plus side ive fitted my new suspension and have just SORN'd the car so it can be rebuilt over winter for next years abuse!..

Lastly who said that a 106 was built like a tin can?, mine can withstand a tank.

Cheers Chris

Looks good on the new suspension! Shame about the driveshafts and diff. LSD time? It's the one thing I thought would do most to increase fun on track days!

I have been thinking about a lsd, But its alot of money and im not sure if its worth it??
Im guessing around 800 poundish for the ATB diff and rebuild, on a car worth about 2K.

Im in no hurry so will give it some thought

Speaking as someone who drives a fairly quick FWD tin box himself, an LSD is a must! Especially if your main focus is track work.

Fitting one transformed my Charade Turbo.

I had a Gripper plate type differential to begin with which was a bit too fierce for general road use, once that wore out I replaced it with a Modena Engineering diff from australia, which is essentially a Quaife ATB in all but name.

I also had a Quaife my EG6 Civic VTi, I wouldnt want another performance FWD car without one.

Doo eeet! biggrin

I noticed you'd enquired about them on the RR after I posted on here!

I know what you mean about justifying the price, it's the same with all modifications really. I guess its just a case of knowing how far you want to take things and justifying it in terms of fun rather than £££. Upgrading things as they break is in theory a good practice but gets expensive when 106s break so much! If my diff went I'd definitely get an LSD though.
