Hi guys,

Have been surfing through the archives for a while now and decided to post up some pictures of my old smart. Sadly I chopped it in for a boggo Renault Clio about 2 years ago. I really miss the old girl, she made me smile every time i drove her! However she was the most unreliable shed on the kings road (after 3 complete engine rebuilds and 5 turbo's in the space of 2 years) and tended to annoy the neighbors quite a bit with the race exhaust, but hey I loved her!

Spec details:
Car: 2002 Smart City Coupe Pure
600cc Suprex engine;
-Wastegate recycle valve
-Big performance remap
-K&N Replacement Filter
-Custom Munkspeed Thunder Race Exhaust Can

Switchable Traction control
Switchable ESP
Ronell Evo Wheels 6.5x15 front and rear.

She wasn't fast... 15ish seconds to 60, and she had her top speed limiter removed. However with the speedo only reading up to 85mph I have no idea where she topped out - My mother followed me up to Leeds one day and was saying that she lost me at 90mph... so I guess it was a touch faster than that (not a lot faster mind you).

At the moment i'm stuck with a rather boring clio - Seems that renault have a passion for making cheap cars devoid of any fun or soul, therefore she'll be going in favour of either a new G3 Smart fortwo or a Clio V6 in the near future.

I've got over the modification bug now, but I still think she looked pretty good in her own individual way. Anyways, this has made me all nostalgic... I'm off to cry now...cry

Dave I agree with you the City-Coupe was definately a car that made you smile

They (early ones at least) were great fun, very reliable and economical as standard without mods

My other car was a TVR 4.3 Griff so I was used to more power but didn't feel the smart needed more power as it was such fun (mad understeer)

Such a pity that Mercs poor build quality and servicing found it's way into a lot of the later cars and roadsters (we went to look at buying a roadster Saturday)

I love my current smart too! I've got a BRABUS which has had a BIG Performance remap and has rolling roaded at 103bhp (up from 74bhp std).

After Christmas its going in for:
intercooler pipe upgrade
new shocks/springs
braided brake hoses
uprated discs/pads
upgraded turbo intake pipe
and a few other bits. And then a re-remap, estimated 120bhp! What jolly fun wink

I cannot believe anyone would get rid of a car with soul to get a car with Nicole (and Papa)

It wasn't really through choice that i got rid of her. She became a money pit and she had to go.

I had 7k to spend and it needed to be a new car, so the choice was either a panda or a clio. The clio won out due to the warrentee length and the way it was fairly capable of doing the Exeter to leeds run without causing me to feel like i'd spent 4 hours in a biscuit tin.

In retrospect I would have loved to have been able to get Ian at BIG Performance to do a 700cc conversion, but it just wasn't worth the hassle on a £3000 car IMHO.

However, I'm going to be looking at a new fortwo passion (84bhp) for when i graduate, I just hope that its more refined for the long rides and that the engine build quality is better.
