The Flying Cake Tin
Discussion
OK it's my name for it, but it is my Old Man's project.
He is 65 and computor illiterate, I am posting this on his behalf.
It is a 1962 Fiat cisquencento, very rare indeed in the RHD version and complete.
He bought it from his brother, we restored it together as a bit of a father son thing back in 1990 then I drove it to uni for two years (hard years).
Restored to original.
Totaly original means a crash gbox, single ply 2" tyres, 12hp!
But she was fine wheeling around town, always people keen for a ride.
I taught my sister to drive in it, she double de-clutches like a Bentley Boy, eventually astounding her driving tester. She still does it today.
Update to 2006..slightly rusty and tired, leaking rubbers and roof = damp mouldy carpet and rust.
(Fiat remember)
So..
Sandblasted, stripped to bare metal and put on a rottiserie!
All rust cut out,
Ferrari house yellow paint,
custom interior,
400 odd percent power upgrade into a 650cc Abarth flat twin,
Recaros,
Momo,
Yokohamas,
Konis
and hundreds of hours.
He now has a go kart with real street credentials, it really does feel like you are driving a cake tin.
It now has syncromesh box from a nikki 650
(deliberate lack of use of capitals = total contempt for brand)
and the ability to squeel its cute little tyres.
It also has an imobiliser!
It sees some club days on the track and a few advertising gigs
He loves it dearly.
best wishes to all
Matt

ohh hell yea
That must realy stand out being hooned about Taz!!!!
love the idea of using a Rotisserie as a sandblast tank and paint shop (if i have understood your statement) thats pure genius!!!
Cheers guys, the rotisserie was bolted fore and aft to the body and allowed the total rotation of the car to get to all parts. That must realy stand out being hooned about Taz!!!!

On castors too for easy moving. 2 guys can lift it anyway, without grunting.
It made for easy working position for the guru who cut in the new panels and shot the paint.
The roads here are narrow and twisty, check Targa Tasmania out if you want an idea.
Its a suprisingly torquey little thing and holds low revs well.
Twitchy on wet roads...like a Vdub or a real Porsche.
Just comically smaller.
Some respect was due to this old girl, @ 45 years of age.
I put 30,000 kms on it years ago, hard ones.
The Old Man resisted all the options I threw at him which were non Fiat...
I am glad he did, it is a little beauty.
If I had my way it would have had a paddle shifted smartcar drivetrain and ABS.
I drove a hot one around Sardinia for a summer, the dimensions are almost identical (mechanically).
