8 valve coming out

breaking GTI 6 currently

GTI 6 engine thats going in

Thats all so far, car is running on coilovers, lowered rear beam with peugeot sport torsion bars and 4 pot brembo's.

Plans are to

- add disk brakes to the rear beam
- engine management with jenvey throttle bodies
- Paint in peugeot total racing colours like the current le mans car!

Guess the price of GTi-6's is finally coming down to Mi16 money.

Nice project. Are you going for the 309 front wishbones and rear beam? Very worthwhile mod.

I'm using the 1.6 box, shorter ratios! thought about using the 6 speed box, but wont need the 6th gear on track! used a MI16 clutch to match it up.

I was running the 1.6 box with an Mi16 final drive on my 1.9 Mi16 engine.

Crazy acceleration up to 100, and i mean crazy. Topped out at 120 though.

Well done, thats fantastic.

Little light car + big motor = HUGE fun.
I hope you have some sticky tyres!

When you put the loom in and wire it up, be carefull not to make the same mistake as me.

I put my replacement engine in, rewired it and the main loom part that crosses at the gearbox/engine join (near the brown multiplug) ended up rubbing on acceleration and splitting. Caused a small fire in my engine bay and killed the elctrics completely.

The part of the loom was replaced though and the car was last seen on a ferry to Dublin. Think it's still there.

Unbelievably good fun though mate, do enjoy.

How easy is it to get the engine in? i've been thinking about the mi16 conversion for a while but would love to do a 6 engine instead. Is it quite similar?

6 engine is heavier, more solid and puts out 7 more bhp in standard form.

The 1.9 alloy job (2.0 mi16 is early 6 variant) is the one to go for to retain the 205GTi feel.

Both very similar swaps and fairly easy as you don't have to move mounts, just sort the downpipe angle, a bit of custom wiring an haway you go.

Recommend 309 front and rear beam upgrade , makes the handling even better.Sticks to the road like glue.
