I really like that - how difficult was the engine swap?

Low range is one thing, but aren't those tyres the limiting factor? wink

bow Thats awesome! Loving it. biggrin

remind me a bit of a paddock-basher one of my mates used to have - a Leone wagon of about the same age, but he'd cut the back door section out of it and welded it back together as a SWB, with some bigger springs etc, radiator mounted in the back to protect it. Was still only a 1600 though so while it felt and sounded quick blasting down a riverbed it actually wasn't. Your on the other hand... bandit

Thanks guys, with 210 kw and only 980 kgs it struggles for traction.

The dog slides uncontrollably towards the tailgate when boost comes on.

It is Way quicker than my old 99 STI, (unmodified and under warranty).
Much more fun though.

It was a ground up resto, no rust, no dents.
fully rebuilt everything except the engine which has 60,000kms on it.

Its a daily driver.

Nice to see a pig-wagon brought up to date - looks ace!

A mate of mine used to have one of these without the mods (rough old thing!). We'd been out in it during the day at work, but it was looking like we were going to be late back so he wound it up down the motorway and managed to get an indicated 100mph out of it! No-one at work believed us mind you. The thing never drove the same again after that journey...

That Pig wagon comment is a bit of a worry..........but thanks, I think!

Mate, your friend's rocketship has done well, 100mph is about the maximum hull speed of the design.
They just don't push air well, especially with a 50mm lift.
I understand they take a while to get there in standard trim (67kw or 89hp), I go no faster in mine either.
You must realise that these cars have the weight of a coffee can and a similar contruction method.
The underhood spare being the primitive 'airbag'. (now gone, uh oh)

I firmly believe 100 mph is my limit except for overtaking manouvres or track work.
It's getting there fast thats fun.

Its only on its 2nd tank of fuel, I will not give her full noise until on a dyno and being supervised by a tuner.

Its blisteringly quick.

And quite a suprise for those unsuspecting souls who underestimate a 19 year old agricultural vehicle.
Get out of the right lane!!!!!
600 watts of lighting usually moves them.

Full running gear transplant, frame rail clearancing, rewiring for ECU, brakes, suspension, bracing the unibody contruction, .....about 6 month after work and weekends.

Re tyres... 95% road use and 5% sand dunes and light 4wding.
Very hard to stop her, without going silly.

Extemely stiff suspension is geared for the road, dead flat handling.

Makes it bouncy off road though...aaagh comprimises.

hehe Did well to get to that speed - my old '86 Leone 1.8 wagon could never quite get there on the flat, once or twice down big hills though. This is the beast:

Pig-wagon was his nickname for it. It really was a ratty old thing, beige & rust - looked like it had been a farmers hack for its entire life!

100mph in a standard one was pretty scary - probably took about 10 miles to get up to that speed!

This is awesome biggrin. The first car I ever drove was one of these on my gran's farm and I have a habit of sticking subaru engines where they weren't supposed to be so this is right up my street (currently putting an RA into a beetle cabrio).
Do you have a build site/thread anywhere I can see?

Awesome!

I used to have an 1800 pickup (they weren't called Brumbys in the UK, we did get a few brats but most were just 1600/1800 Pickups). Unfortunately they don't cope too well with the salt put on the roads in the winter so most have rotted away.

Did you ever have the rear facing seats in Oz models? That would be interesting with all that power, a dog and 2 passengers stuck to the tailgate...

The wrx conversion is brilliant! I wish I could find a good tidy car and the funds to do something similar.

We have the same problem here in Tasmania, coastal air eats them quickly when you mix a little beach driving in as well.

I found this one recently in the outback (Vic/NSW border), No rust, just 20kgs of dust built up in every panel and sill.

They have a nice wide engine bay and are as strong as anything Subaru ever built.
Pity they stopped making them.
But...the Subaru Lego concept carries over pretty well.
Most Subaru equipment bolts together.
Small custom items were needed, eg. gearbox cross member and radiator, but on the whole the rest is made up of combinations of stock parts.
From about 7 models.

Keeps it reliable that way, he says touching wood!
Our wildlife is BRUTAL on cars, and they are not good for the little critters too, I destroyed a 99 STI landing it on a Kangaroo, this is able to take a few hits and shrug them off.

Thanks for your kind words.
