hi new to the golf scene, always wanted a 3dr mk2 golf gti, was sort of my dream car, now finaly got one, only had it 2-3 weeks, and blew the gasket the other day, so hoping to get sorted with all VR6 running gear next week
anyway heres my car, only thing i can fault is the boot needs respraying wich id rather spray the hole car then, with it being red, its got electric windows wich i was happy lol too, future stuff to do is, paint brake calipers, ronal turbo's, de-badge, de-rear wiper, crystal headlights and front indiacators and vented wings, oh and finaly german plates and surrounds, let me no what you think

thats a lovely looking GTI there, always did quite like these! those BBS's look smashing on it IMO!
i've noticed a few old 'Dub's recently wearing german style plates, its still the british letter/number layout, but with the german style font and a "D" EU thing in the corner.

I bought mine with german plates on it & haven't been stopped yet. Does "they were on it when I bought the car officer" still work? Or will I get fined anyway?
Nice car though.
Normally dealt with by ways of a VDRS, which is optional, you can refuse if you wish and go to court etc. However, with a VDRS there's no fine and no points etc as long as you change them for standard plates and get the ticket stamped by an MOT station and pop it into the station afterwards. Nice car though.
You'd have to have a very bored/anal BIB IMHO to give out a fixed penalty for it, so chances are if you got stopped you'd just be asked to change them back to standard.
yeah guna fill the holes in the boot, head gasket gone the other day, deciding to get a group a or n one if can, cas float head, port n polished etc, some sprinter or transporter wing vents and smoked front indicators for the bumper so it looks flush if you know what i mean, also going to get some cross hair headlights, my stainless steel system should be with me this week too, thanx for all the coments guys, was very unsure weather to leave the wheels or get some ronal turbo's

I love Ronal Turbo's, but to be fair your BBS really suit your car, I'd stick with them and use the cash in the engine dept. I got told to take my german plates off last week by a traffic copper.
He showed me that the ANPR could not read the german font on the plate.
So if your car gets nicked and it drives past and ANPR it will not get picked up and the whereabouts reported to the police which would help them find it.
He just asked me to replace them with proper plates so i have.

I've seen em for 98 notes a corner. Just be careful what offset you go for or you'll be chafing your rear
Unless you get your arches rolled, in which case get 8x15 et 18
These guys sell em

Best advice for tuning a 8v.... get a 2.0L bottom end from a Audi 80 or VW passat/mk3 golf for about 150quid. combined with a ported an polished head and high lift cam you should be heading toward 140BHP and close to 16v territory!
Or if you arent happy with a 8v... then really you have to consider VR6 or 20vt as there is little point doing a 16v conversion- never build something you can buy!
