New Car - TVR 450SE
Discussion
Bought myself a new car this week in the shape of a TVR 450SE!!
Being of the older wedge variety you certainly do get a difference of opinion on them. I personally love the shape and would account for the fact this is my fifth wedge! Its also a very rare beast with only approx 35 of these being made.
Of course the best thing though is the thunderous 4.5 litre V8. If the styling isnt to your taste the V8 certainly makes up for it with the noise
Couple of pics for you...

Well that 'was' the plan, however saw this and the plan changed...lol. I was lucky enough to have another 450SE about 10 years ago, and seeing as they are such a rare car I couldnt pass this one by. Esp at the price i paid for it Doesn't look like a cerb tho!!!

How comes only 35 were made? Whats the spec?
It was a combination of factors i think. Firstly it was a very expensive car in the first place, second only to SEAC's in cost. I do have an original price list which i'll have to dig out later. The styling is also a love or hate thing too, but the thing that really killed them was the launch of the Griffith prototype at the 1990 motorshow. People wanted cars with curves, not the angular lines of wedges.
Spec as i say is a 4.5 rover V8, which TVR claimed was good for 320bhp in the 450SE, although the figure is more likely to be around 270/280ish. If i get the chance i'll put in on a rolling road at some point just out of curiosity.
i've always thought that the 400/450SE Wedges were brutal looking old beasts! i love the flaired wheel arches, the vents in the bonnet, single bazooka exhaust(especially the noise!), the simple bootlid spoiler all these bits really add to the visual burliness of the car IMO.
i think you've got yourself an absolute corker there! its the 450 from the TVR Centre isn't it? its got a lovely colour combo too!
enjoy it!

Have found a pricelist from back in 1991 which would probably be a bit more than in '89 when my car was built.
List price in 91 for a 450SE was £31995.00 and if i add in the options mine has fitted it would have come to a total of £34365.00
If you consider that a brand new 4.3 Pre Cat Griff at the same time cost £28295.00 before options then you can see why wedges died out pretty quickly. A 4.0 Pre Cat was listed at £25795.00 before options.
