Hi there,

Decided I wanted a car that would give me loads of fun and stop the boredom I currently experience when driving approx 800 miles a week in my normal family saloon.

So I set myself a budget of £6500 and set about finding my new car. Had already decided that I wanted a Roadster Coupe as I have to carry large amounts of paperwork that would not fit in a Roadster. Had a good look around and find the car that is now parked out side my house.

The car is a 2004/04 plate Roadster Coupe in Yellow/Black. It has the sports pack fitted and was supplied new from the factory with the Hardtop (no soft roof for me I'm afraid). It has covered 46,000 miles and has had two previous owners. I bought the car from a dealer and it cost me £6400 including tax, mot and 6mths warranty. I am quite pleased with the price paid. Previous owner has also tinted the rear glass area which has grown on me, quite like it now.

Picked the car up this afternoon and so far have driven from Bradford to Derby (100 miles approx). Will be covering around 600 miles in the next three days so should be familiar with the car by the weekend.

First thoughts WOW !!!!! what a car !!
It is nippy, the gearbox is great (more below), it handles well and best of all my colleagues at work hate it (ha ha).

My favourite thing about the car so far is the way the Turbo chatters like a World Rally Car when it changes gear.

Heres some pics: -

Very nice indeed - I am such a fan of these, especially to drive. Lot of car for the money as well.

Cool little car, drove one for the first time about a month ago, was really impressed with how well they go and handle. Just found the gear box really irritating and on the slow side when changing, I suppose it's all in the timing and getting to know it smile

Hi there,

I have done 353 miles in the last two days in the car on a mixture of country roads, dual carriageways and motorways, and I am still blown away by what a great car the Roadster Coupe is.

I put 28 litres of fuel in it yesterday morning and even after the two days mileage (353) the fuel light has only just come on. By my reckoning the car is averaging 57.21 mpg, and I have not exactly been pootling around.

Had to buy a headlamp bulb today (£8.99) from Halfords and although the handbook says that a dealer should fit it, I have done it tonight and found it quite easy.

Went to the Smart dealer in Stoke on Trent and they told me that the only way for me to get a radio code is for them to remove the radio, get the serial number and once I prove my identity they can fax Grundig and get the code. They have told me this will take 5 days and cost me £15.00.
Anyone know of an easier way ??? I am starting to miss my radio.

Tomorrow should mean a trip of approx 180 miles or so. More reports after the weekend.

Regards

Tim

very nice indeed Tim, by all means please bring it along to Kimbolton and lets see how much you can wind Nigel up with it! (just don't mention a certain 1973 british sports coupe whose name consists of 2 letters and one number! hehe)
speaking of whom, don't you have a new addition you might like to show off Nigel? smile

Tim I wouldn't bother with smart/merc dealerships, go to indies or get info off smart owners web site and forums
http://www.thesmartclub.co.uk/

Hi James, smart being there wouldn't wind me up so much as it would Sheila, she's spent the best part of another day of her holiday helping me to try and sort out the (being very polite now) blue thing

Replacement car I think needs it engine running-in and thers's no way I can do that as I'll probably have to pick it up the night before frown
