Right don't really know what to say here, but here goes.

Car started life as a simple 1.4cl Polo.
I bought it off an old man in Battersea. Who had just bought a (then new) golf.

I then had a little mishap in a car park entrance.

here you can see the new wishbone next to the old one and note the point at which the old one bends is actually engineered to fail at this point.

i then had my exhaust cut by a local yob. so instead of replaceing it with a standard item i opted for a stainless steel custom item.

next came lowering and a set of wheel's. i managed to get a cracking deal on a set of spax PSX 60mm's. so i snapped those up. And a guy on the polo forum had a set of Schmidt modern line's in chrome (limited editions and had to be shipped from germany direct) for sale so they were purchased also.

the standard interior on the polo is well to put it politly dated, so sauced a set of MK3 golf color concept leather seats and had the centres retrimmed in grey (as they where originaly yellow)

excuse the mess in the back, i must have been feelin lazy.

here you can see the diffence between the originals and the new leather seats

i then thought i would spread the modifications to the outside. so the front bumper was changed for a zender item (imported from germany again) the front headlights where updated to a set of Fk powerlook with 6h bulbs.

new headlight wiring with individual fuses and relay's and direct battery feed.

the rear bumper was also changed for a 16v version and the rear lights were also updated to the 16v ones.

this picture was taken a few days after it came back from paint

Engine wise i haven't done alot yet, but i have big plan's

K&N induction kit (my home made oil breather and catch tank can be seen behind the filter)

The rocker cover was looking very tierd and serriously corroded so i spent many hour polishing it up.

the ignition leads had corroded and started to fail so i bought a set of 10mm race leads with one of thoose spitfire units (creates 5 sparks from one spark plug)

there are a few other modification's that have been done but by now i am sure you guys are bored and i have chewed up enough bandwidth.

Future plan's include 1.3 supercharged conversion, conversion from PAS to manual steering, change of wheels (compomotive MO's high on the list), Wilwood 4 pot brakes (lower corner weight than brembo's), MK5 GTi front anti roll bar and general tune up and remap.

thanks for reading. Coments and Opinion's (nice ones prefered)

I was kind of expecting to not like the results as I don't like most modified cars but thats looks superb and is so much better looking.

Well done.

The whole idea was to make the car look not to modified when being driven or parked up. But when parked next to a standard Polo the differences would be clear but yet still a few that would go semi un-noticed. But ultimately i built the way i wanted to build it.

Door card's where a thought but as you say there money and i think i gave the trimmers enough of that at the time. Also i am now taking the car in a new direction so the interior might be changing once again.

thanks for the nice coments (so far) i realise my car is not everyones cup of tea and if you feel it can be improved please speak up.

Munch, fantastic work, very classy looking little motor and will go nicely too (and sound great) when you've done the G40 conversion i'm sure.

Only negative from my perspective is the splitfire thingy on the coil lead - they are crap unfortunately (i was involved in some scientific testing of these devices about 12 years ago) so i suggest you ditch it at the earliest opportunity. It looks like it works when they show you their test rig, but in reality all it does is turn one strong spark into lots of weak ones and your combustion is actually worse...

That brings back so many memories looks really nice!

I used to have a 1.6GL for my first car and absolutely loved it, mine was modified too to be smooth and just had 15's was lowered and backbox etc...but it is still one of my favourite cars.

I still yearn for one on its arse with ronal turbos and a 20VT under the bonnet (in green obviously) smile

Love it!
