Here is my Daihatsu Charade GTxx, JDM version of the GTti. It came with all the nice bits the UK cars didnt get, i.e. PAS, AC(now removed), full bodykit, two tone paint, momo goodies etc etc.

She runs a 993cc 3pot DOHC Turbo engine, dyno'd two weeks ago at WRC - 155hp on 1bar boost.

Last time I ran it she managed a 14.8 up the strip at Santa Pod and 6.67 to 60mph measured at Trax a coupla years ago. It should be good for some quicker times, I just need to get my launch technique down!

Looking to track it later on in the year, bit more interesting than the drags driving

She's got few(!) mods:-

Rebuilt engine - forged pistons and fat rods come as standard on these, which is nice
Microtech LT10s ECU
Hybrid Turbo made from Maserati and Mazda parts
270° Cams
Ported head with casting marks cleaned up and stiffer valve springs fitted
2.5" Open Neck Downpipe mated to 2.25" Exhaust
Induction Kit
Blitz Dual Drive BOV
Forge 1bar Actuator

Bilstein Dampers with Venturi Springs
Superflex Poly Bushes all round
VibraTechnics solid rubber engine mounts with metal collars

Grooved front discs with sports pads all round
Goodridge braided steel brake lines

Exedy Sports Tuff with Organic Centre
Modena Engineering Torsen LSD cloud9

Yoko AO48R Medium Compound on the front, AO32R supersoft on the rear
Wedsport RS5 5.55Kg wheels

Defi DIN Pod
Greddy Boost and EGT.
PLX Wideband O2

Its getting a front mount and ally rad shortly to help keep things cool on all fronts.

The standard IC is only fed by that little slat in the front bumper via a rubber duct arrangment. Its fine to a point, but not for big boost.

After that will come Wilwood four pot brakes and a larger 45mm throttle body before a remap up to 1.5bar. evil

The interior and loom need some serious tidying, then its off for a new coat of paint and its done! Oh that and the backbox needs replacing with something that a)fits the exhaust cut out on the bumper, and b) looks a tad more purposeful.

Pocket rocket, impressive power from such a small engine

Any chance of an engine pic or two? I'd be interested to see what it looks like

The engine bay is a total mess at the moment, I was hoping to hide my shame

I'll snap some pics a bit later on

A/C removed

On the day I did the 0-60 at Trax a mate with a GTti and I embarrased many a Focus RS and Civic Type R owner. They didnt look best pleased getting beaten by a pair of near 20 yr old one litre shopping trolleys

I reckon it should be able to muster a high 5s to 60, I'd be over the moon if it could!

I think when it was new the GTti was fastest (something) car to 50 mph embarrassing others with GTi badges

A local PHer knows of a GTti with a blown engine (HOW, how, they're indestructable) that needs putting right and back on the road

When it was first released some of its in gear times were as quick as one 911 version or another available at the time. I've got a few(too many) old car mags from when they were first released, one of which ran a direct comparison between a 911 and a GTti.

Poor maintenance and or an FCD to remove boost cut most likely. I've seen so many engines go pop owned by young lads who just stuck and FCD and bleed valve on and went nuts with the boost. The stock turbo is really inefficient above 1bar as is the stock sidemount I/C.

The engines are bullet proof, but if you like to drive it hard you cannot skimp on maintenance and bolt checks on major components, paying particular attention to the manifold, these like to warp and then blow across the head causing gasket failure. IMO they are the one weakpoint of the stock engine.

So wheres this cha cha in need of attention then

In the North Northamptonshire to South Liecestershire area (in other words I'm not 100% sure but I could pass on your contact and interest to other PHer if you wanted)

I have Porsche owning friends I love to wind them up they're so defense about their cars

If you were able to scan those comparison figures and photo of a GTti I'd post them

Here's my posts about a Poor man's Porsche that I owned new in 1986, see at towards the end of the threads for scan (I decided to delete it from the Porsche Forum as I would be asking for their help soon after)
