Hello, Just joined up, but i have been reading for some time now. im a regular over at www.pug306.net, and looking forward to contributing on here

just thought i would show you lot my current car
it's also my first car (i'm not long 19, though i bought it myself nearly 2 years ago), i am now looking to replace her with a HDI Dturbo

it's a:

Peugeot 306 1.9 Dturbo (1998)
Nordic Green
74,000 miles on the clock (bought it at 68,000) which is nice and low for the year
Completely standard...as peugeot intended (well i have added a leather gearstick and gaiter, and a CD multichanger)

to be fair it's nothing on what a lot of you guys have, but it's a first car, i was restricted by insurance (as i'm sure a lot of you will know) and was determined not to end up with a 1.0 corsa or saxo .etc

it's got reasonable pace (once you get out of 1st gear) and although no GTI6/Rallye it handles pretty well.

anyway here are the photos, the car is a slightly darker green (like british racing green) but my camera cannot get it right for some reason

and some i took on my phone (sorry about the quality)

like i said, i am planning on upgrading to a HDI Dturbo when i can find a decent one (which is nearly GTI spec...but still group 5 insurance) and then upgrading the interior and brakes (and possibly a remap ) so it's a GTI replica, it's the best i can do until i gain some NCB (been on parents insurance until recently)

any comments welcome.

Nice motor and a very good one for a first car. Bit of a garish interior though, why did Peugeot some up with such awful seat coverings?
My daily driver is a HDi Estate and it's a hoot, handles well enough and still returns 40mpg driving it fairly hard through the country lanes to work and back.

Nice car that, i've looked at them myself a few times. Can i ask why you're looking for a HDI model next - are they significantly better? Also what's the handling like, a lot of 306s tend to roll a fair bit, this any different?

Cheers,
Rob.

I had a 306XLDT so same engine as yours minus the sporty interior, was my daily driver till the rep took it over...Got rid of it last year with over 170k on the clock and still going strong...
Rep has a Xsara 2.0HDI which is much faster than the 306, so would recomned the HDi upgrade.

Thanks everyone

the interior isnt that bad, infact i really like it (the seats are very comfy)

the resons i am changing to the HDI are:

1. HDI engine (though still same power) has more torque and is a lot smoother
2. It will also remap to 118-120bhp, which will give just over 100bhp per tonne (ok not much, but the best i can do at the moment)
3. The interior is of a much better quality (plastics are better, and updated a bit)
4. GTI Spec Bodykit + Alloys
5. Uprated Suspension (again GTI spec) and brakes
6. Aircon and full set of airbags

they really do drive a whole lot different, much more composed and a better power delivery

my plans are to get the car and spend a little bit on uprating some areas but keeping it looking standard, namely getting a GTI Leather/Alacantara interior, GTI front brakes, a Remap, 406 coupe dimming mirror and a few other small upgrades

basically it will be a GTI spec, but with the HDI Diesel, at my age i cannot expect anything more than that without spending a fortune on insurance.

the car will last me until i am out of uni, and then i can get something a bit more interesting

Good plan, no point getting raped on insurance at uni, much better uses - like text books (), beer, strippers, drugs....

Cheers,
Rob.

not a bad looking motor.

you got the right idea of not going too mad straight away & slowly build up to the good stuff when insurance permits.

Nice to see you keep it in good nick - washed & polished. That must mean you look after the rest of it too.

thanks guys, i really do love the car, not your average young lads car, which is why i bought it, and if you wanted the fueling and boost can be changed D.I.Y (or a pro job for about £100) to give it roughly 110bhp (not done this on mine as im changing)

it's group 5 insurance, i have only just gone on my own, after being on my parents since i was 17 (they wanted £2000 back then to insure it)

at the moment it costs me £1050 with 0 NCB, fully comp....which is pretty good really, a HDI worth a fair bit more would cost me an extra £150

i am struggling to find a good HDI though (been looking for a good 4 or 5 months and seen 6 cars....all of which were not right)

the thing is its hard to find a nice car (must be a diesel, and no smaller) with such a good sport spec, and still cheap to insure, the 306 is the only car i can think of that meets all those requirements, hence why i am getting another,
Dont be put off by those who slate french cars, it was one of the last good peugeots, and as long as you know the weaknesses and do a bit of preventative maintanance on those areas (door looms, leaky door seals .etc) then you should be fine

the other advantage is that parts are seriously cheap, and there is no shortage of ones in scrap yards to take bits off
