My Formula 27 hillclimb / sprint / track-day car
Discussion
This is my F27 which has been completely rebuilt with a new chassis/frame, new bodywork and ‘superbike’ drivetrain. The transmission tunnel & bulkheads on this car are fabricated to give more leg room & width on the driver’s side so you can drive it with normal shoes on. It has been built as a competition car so there is no heater or windscreen. The nose-cone, scuttle and all four wings are wet-laid carbon fibre (in ultra-light competition weight). The engine is a late-model, low-mileage CBR1000FP and is 998cc, currently chucking out 130bhp. The FP is a little heavier than the Fireblade but is significantly more robust and has a bit more torque. This particular engine is running on carbs (4 - one for each cylinder!) rather than the original ‘throttle body’ fuel-injection set up. The engine comes, of course, as standard with a 6-speed sequential shift (using a push-pull by the steering wheel) and no reverse gear.
Other parts worth mentioning;
MKII Escort ‘Quick rack’ steering rack - 2.2 turns lock-to-lock.
Poly-bushed suspension all round.
Stainless Goodridge hoses and fittings including plumbed-in oil cooler.
AVO shocks all-round.
Revolution four-spoke wheels with Maxsport soft and super-soft road-legal slicks.
Powerspeed custom-fabricated manifold & silencer - much bigger silencer than the bike one which would not pass noise scrutineering for track-days and motorsport events.
Momo steering wheel on a quick-release boss (very handy if you have long legs).
Original Honda bike tacho modified into a Lucas housing.
Willans 4-Point Harnesses.
In current set-up the car weighs 420kg, which equates to 320bhp/tonne. There's a new roll cage on order so this will decrease slightly but even so it will still fly!
Future plans include;
‘Paddleshift’ steering wheel gear change & a clutchless shifter module.
Quaife ATB limited-slip-differential.
Alloy engine-bay undertray & carbon rear venturis.
Nitrous Oxide!

Yup, the roll bars are on order. I vowed never again to drive anything without rollover protection after I fishtailed my 1500cc challenge cup MG Midget into an 8 foot Cornish hedge at 60+ mph last year. I may have been able to walk away without a scratch but I'm under no illusions how lucky I was not flip the thing.

Phewee I thought it was a strange think to overlook!!
Looks great, look forward to seeing on the hills!!! You'll need that roll bar before they let you loose with it though...Oh and NOS is banned, actually the MSA doesn't allow compressed cylinders other than fire extinguishers so that'll be a no no on the hills but would be fun for the road!!!!
