Welcome to PH! That's a nice looking car mate.

I haven't seen one before. What sort of engine does it have, is it a Northstar V8? Is it a front driver?

Are you up to your armpits in snow in Rochester?!

Thanks!

They were not common to say the least (7 years of production they made 21,430 total, 1992 was the lowest with 1931 made) The chasis were built in detroit, shipped to Turin Italy, there the bodies were built and installed by pininfarina, down the road the Gergio Armani designed interior was put in, it was then shipped back to detroit (all this shipping was done on custom boeings) where the drivetrain was put in. Cadillac lost a boat load on these cars, as they were too pricey for their time (about US$65,000 in the early 90's/late 80's).

My 1992 has a 4.5L Cadillac V8 in it, not the most powerful engine around, but no slug either. They were all FWD (unfortunatly...but it still does handle like its on rails). The 1993 Allante was the first car ever to have a Northstar V8, but to put this pricey engine in the car, they cheapened the rest of the car down (a few examples: No more Bose, Recaro seats, Bosch III Abs, or side vent windows, which make it silent with the top down).

EDIT: And...knock on wood...Rochester hasnt had it too bad...yet...nice and cold (it was -25 with the wind chill here this week) but west of us has the worst of the snow, above the armpits from what i hear...as in 10ft in places....I'm sure we'll get our share....Luckily the allante is happily asleep in storage.

Anyways, sorry i sort of got off on a rant there, but Thanks again for the compliment.

KC Ryan

Wow that is impressive.

I'm really impressed, what sort of performance does it have? Being a Caddy I take it they kept the V8 burble to a minimum and refinement quite up the top of the list!

Good to hear the snow isn't too bad, I've just seen some pictures on the Beeb website, looks pretty bad. We get half an inch in the UK and the country grinds to a halt!

Shes defiently refined, silent at 70mph, not very loud at all at 100. The exhaust note is not intrusive, but not silent like id expect from a caddy.

Its not the quickest off the line, likely mid 7's 0-60 and 15's for 1/4 mile would be my guess. But it will move, for sure, i've had it well into the 120's and im sure it has more, i just dont have the balls to test how much more. 110 with the cruise, it just motors along, feels like im doing 50. pretty quiet too.

Overall, its not a sports car (but id guess you knew that the seccond you saw Cadillac in the title) but for a tourer/cruiser or a weekend fun car, it fits the bill perfectly. Now as for my sports car...thats in the works..I'm thinking either G35 or M3

It sounds spot on to me, plus I don't think a Caddy is the the sort of car you should rag about at warp factor three, it is, and your car certainly looks like a nice cruiser.

G35 or M3?

Go for the M3! What sort are you after? I have owned a few BMW's and I am a bit biased in that I would go for an E30. I know they never imported them to the US but I have heard of a few over there. It's not the fastest car on the roads nowadays but the handling is awesome, one of the best rear drive chassis of the 80's.

I believe i've seen a few around actually, But id be going E46. As this will have to be a daily driver in addition to a track star. I'd be buying an 2002 or 2003 E46 M3 right now if it werent for the somewhat scary reliabilty...

e46 M3 is a nice car, I drove an '05 one last year, I had so much fun with it set in 'sport' mode with the T/C off!

I've not heard of any real reliability issues over here other than the problems BMW had with some of the earlier engines, I know that these were all fixed under warranty in the UK with total engine replacements. I can't for the life of me remember what the exact fault was, if it was either to do with the cylinder coating or bottom end. (back in the 90's BMW had real problems with the Nikasil liners in some of their engines due to the high sulphur content of UK fuel, but they sorted it fairly quickly)

It will be noted in the Service History, if it has been done, the car should give the usual Teutonic bulletproof reliability BMW are renowned for.

Go on, buy one, you know you want to!

I do want to...cant lie there.

I believe it was the main bearings early on. With new bearings and 10w-60 oil they seem to be ok. But im still cautious...we shall see how it turns out

You'll have to let us know as soon as you buy one of course!

Go on....

A nice Carbon Black one with a red leather interior and the 18" wheels as they give a better ride than the 19's! cloud9

Had a decent amount of snow over here in Syracuse. Just north of me in Oswego they had 10-15 ft of snow depending on which way the lake effect went!

Have to agree that a V8 fwd does seem somewhat odd, even by American standards.

Haha, i've tried sketching them too...no luck...they end up looking horrible as well.

FWD was actually pushed big by pininfarina, strangely. Doesnt bother me too much tho, although im a RWD man at heart
