This is my lastest motor bought today! It's the XJ40 shape n/a XJR which becoming a very rare beast by all accounts, according to JEC there are fewer than 120 still on the road, apparently. I thought that if I was going to acquire an xj40, then I might as well go for the 'R'. It cost £1500. I've not had it long but it's been great so far, I can't get over how refined and smooth this thing is! It compliments my rather more abrasive Rover 220 nicely.

Here's some spec's and a few dealer pictures (I'll post some of my own when I get the chance to take some!)

Engine type: S6, DOHC, 24 valve
Displacement: 3980cc
Compression ratio: 9.75:1
Max power output: 251.0 bhp (254.5PS) @5250rpm
Max torque: 278lbft
0-60mph: 6.7s
Max speed: 147 mph
Kerb weight: 1493 kg
Insurance group: 19

If anyone knows of any history or interesting information regarding this model please let me know, thanks!

Lovely car dude, i had a 92' 4 litre xj40, sold it 4 years ago for £1500 !!
Your new toy looks great for the money, worth checking all chassis running gear (steering/bushes/ball joints/bearings etc..) wear fast on these..

Thanks for the comments guys! Yeah, it's in really good shape for the year, no dents but a couple of very minor rust spots. It's mechanically sound as far as I can tell, has 100% full service history still, with no expence spared it seems!

I really, really like that. There is something exceptionally cool about a fast and understated saloon.

All that for just £1500, you can't go wrong for that now can you!!

I'm off to check autotrader and see if I can bag one as good as that.......... type

If you get anymore pictures done I for one would love to see them. thumbup

Oh and let us know how you get on with the ol' girl.

I had one of those, great vehicle, would buy one again if I was 10years younger, don't leave the ngine on when Topping up- you'll forever be there, laugh I thought my one had a leak in the tank-was just normal fuel consumption.
£1500- BARGAIN, that looks in excellent condition,

Loving the car so far, feels special to drive and has such character!

I see there's a couple of nice one's on the trader at the moment, one for £1995, another for £3995. I really wanted one with the black leather, you seldom seem to see XJ's with that, usually tan/cream.

When I bought my V8 XJR I particularly wanted black with black leather and they all seemed to be black with ivory.

Damn I miss that car cry

I'll have to give that a go! Not sure if I could get that done in an auto, looks like first gear mayhem to me!
