Hi guys just bought a clio 172 and looking to do some subtle mods so I can keep up with 182s and type rs! Well try!

Has anyone had a chip fitted to their 172? If yes was it any good? Gains wise and what make/who fitted it?

Also exhausts has anyone found a company that will sort out back bumper and fit a nice sounding exhaust. Not a drain pipe!

And to finish anyone fitted a strut brace? Was it worth it.

Chris

Hi mate, good choice of car, had a 172 before my 182. For chips, guy called pmurray, think his company is called rstuning based in leeds seems to have a good rep. Not cheap engines to get power out of though, for better value have you thought about coilover suspension? For exhausts, prospeed in cardiff have a good rep, as do yozzasport (but loud). Get over to cliosport.net, you'll get lots of advice.

Cheers mate. Yeah been speaking to a couple of people and the general gist is that it is an expensive job.

To be honest, there's not a great deal of difference on the road, main reason I switched was the looks and firmed up suspension. I think a 172 with sorted suspension would quite easily match a 182, if not better. Which colour did you go for?

In all honesty the best mod you can do to keep up with the competition is get some proper driving tuition or track day experience. What you've got under the bonnet or poking out of the rear bumper really doesn't make a blind bit of difference if the bod sat in the drivers seat doesn't know how to make the most of it. Really can improve your driving style as well.

Driving tuition? Never considered that do you know of any decent events?

Iceberg silver is the colour. If I can next year I fancy a 182 in inferno red! Or maybe a trophy if I save mega hard!

If its a mk2 172, theres hardly no different in performance between the 182...... and they get faster as they get older somehow?? They are great cars, depends what you want really but if you want more power its going to cost a bomb!

for power options you have like:

Inlet manifold / ECU Remap / Cam Package will put you up to about 200bhp about £1,800
Throttle Body Conversion - That will put you up to about 220Bhp! about £3,700
and then a turbo i guess can range from 240bhp to 300bhp, but will set you back about £6,000!
Or you could just strip it down a bit an its possible if you go crazy to get it down to about 910kg's but then you wont have a car left! but you will have cash left!! :>

Like people said Coilovers are a good option i would suggest the H&R Coilovers they cost about £850 and ment to be really good all around i'm getting some after xmas for my 172 Cup (with student loan), or you could splash out an get the LEDA's ones i think they cost like £1,500..

You could also upgrade the disc's and pad's if you wanted too etc :>

Atm on mine not many mod's..

Exhaust, Open AirFilter with direct air intake from fog light, and eibach springs!

Anyway i suggest the following websites

www.cliosport.net/
www.greydevilindustries.com/
www.yozzasport.co.uk/
www.k-tecracing.com/ ( a bit boy racer type )

oww an mine www.tomehb.co.uk/files/172cup/

Depends where you're based mate, I did a full day with Cadence, north midlands. Took out by Hugh, the guy that writes in Evo's letter section, absolutely brilliant day, well worth it.

Give Cadence a bell, they do on track tuition as well as road tuition. If you are going on track, I'd get the brakes uprated, I got brembo discs, ferodo ds2500 pads and braided hoses fitted by Fred at Yozzasport. Best customer service I've ever come across, helped me out on a sunday because it's my only day off.

^^ I did my two tack days on OE sat up and didn't have any problems they will be ready for replacing soon though I thought about the uprated package but decided aainst it in the end due to dust and noise from the uprated set up that many people complained about laugh

No fade with normal set up!! Your not trying hard enough ! I've found I get less dust since changing, stopped squealing once bedded in. Nearly went thru windscreen after I got the lines done. Brake fade is scary at bedford, think it would be new pants time at the ring

I m up in newcastle, yeah saw your thread on cliosport.net. Exhaust system looks good.

How much did brakes set you back?

Has anyone had a rattle come from the drivers door - around the seat belt plastic?

Cadence sounds like a good set-up, took my pal out in it last night who is a crx fan and he was impressed.

Brakes were about £180, cheaper than standard from Renault. The rattle I get is from the rear speakers, but I bought a Haynes manual, any rattles I take the trim apart and just tighten everything up, seems to sort them out.

I highly recommend a 182 manifold and de-cat pipe onto ktec stealth exhaust, coupled with a ITG maxogen and Inlet manifold match, with a dash of ECU re-programming. eibach sportline on standard cup dampers work wonders, so do michelin pilot exalto II rubber and PF97 pads on Brembo group N discs....
