Been given a mint M reg metro (will try and post a pic later) and gonna turn it into a track day machine to save on tyres and brakes and stuff on the MR2 (and throw it away if/when I prang it) got access to a local go-cart track where they have a top gear style lap board for all the cars that have ever been round - want to do some giant killing with the Metro! reckon that the narrow width will be an advantage through the many narrow chicanes at least.

Gonna start stripping it out at the weekend of all the interior and stuff to get as much weight out of it as possible.
Any advice on what other mods to do to help shave some tenths of the lap times? Don't really what to throw much money at it either, just an idea for some cheap fun and never mind if it gets broke...

Thats thats sorted then.

Iamthestig, just do what cossiemetro has done and you'll be sorted.

Cossiemetro, if i may say so, you're absolutely nuts. That looks insane.

I beleive it's a 1.4 (doesn't say anywhere but it does 110mph on the clock and goes pretty well - for a metro) is there anyway of finding out? the reg no is M336MNA if it's possible to do a search somewhere?

Busta - where about's are you? I'm in Shrewsbury so if it's not too far I'd love to take it off your hands!!!

Was wondering how far I could take it but still keeping it road legal. what would the MOT man say to most the dash being missing, plexiglass windows, welded shut tailgate and passenger door (for extra rigidity!) pass mirror and wiper missing, just the drivers seat left (would I have to inform the DVLA that it's no longer a 4 seater?)
Or is that too much hassle - best just to get a cheap trailer off ebay?

Like the look of what Talon sportscars get up to, some quality engineering going on there: shoehorning a 1.8vvc lump into a metro anyone? Mine's going to be more of a scrapheap challenge effort!

i'd look at some caterham engine bits. i mean ideally you go to a 1.4 but if you look at some of the basic caterham upgrades to the 1.4 K that might help..?

cars and car conversions did at least one metro gti trackday car i seem to recall - try and research that..?

i'd want a cage in a metro ..BUT it will more than likely seriously increase insurance. more of a goer if you're going to keep it sorn'd and track only...

might be worth seeing if www.moto-build.com/ can still help - they used to do a fair bit with metros... and still do sith the Kseries in elises etc.

because of the hydro-spastic type suspension you have to be careful when sorting out...

I'm afraid i live in norfolk so it'll be a long way to come for a car worth less than a pot noodle. All this metro talk has got me thinking about building a metro vvc now. Time to go car hunting me thinks.

docevi1 - many thanks for the info, how did you get it? Do you work for or have a contact at the DVLA?
