Well its been a while now, about 6 months to be precise, and STILL i havnt finished it yet, well actually, no where near finishing it

Any way heres some pics of progress so far...

As you can see it was a little worse for wear when i collected it from its previous owner for the small sum of nothing

with the engine one the drivers seat!!!

but the engine bay and wing tops were solid and as new!!

Out came the firewall and the seam sealer off the strut tops to give it a cleaner look, as well as welding on a new VAG front panel.

So, round to my brothers it went , where he proceeded to build his own sandblasting pot out of a calor gas bottle, some inch pipe and a MIG welder
10 bags of Ovaline blasting sand collected and progress begins...

removing all paint and rust completely from the shell, to reveal just how good a condition its in for a 24 year old car!!

so now its onto the paint. Kept with the original vw colour of malaga red as its very subtle and will help disguise what lies under the bonnet

first off its the high build primer lovingly applied by my brother...

then it was 3 days of tedious flatting and prep work to get it spot on for the top caot to be applied...and these are the results..

now onto the juicey part, the ENGINE :d

Gathered together lots of parts, all ready for a weeks worth of engine build as soon as final polishing etc is complete on the shell and the chassis is ready.

Nice forged S3 audi pistons and rods...

one custom inlet manifold consisting of audi S" lower half and complete custom top half constructed by my brother

SAchs 4 puck paddle clutch to cope with the power ...

Large T04E turbo, 42mm external wastegate and custom stainless ceramic coated log manifold..

Engine mock up lovingly done on the kitchen floor

FMIC kit bought to help keep inlet temps to a minimum...

and thats about as far as ive got with it... I have MBE management for the ignition and fueling side of things as well as some other custom bits and pieces for it. Hoepfully, this year should see it up and running and in its final form im aiming for which is..

comments and critisism welcommed :d

cheers
Nik

I love projects like this and I would love to have the time to devote to doing something like this!

That thing should be silly quick when you have finished and will certainly embarras a few people along the way I'm sure!

Beutifull, i love mk 1s, so wish i had time for another veedub project, i have a real yearning for a silly arse caddy pickup at the mo for some reason.

wow great post .. good luck with finishing it off, looks great and your bro is uber talented!

I have a few nice high power turbo cars comng through the workshop thes days .. one is a turbo Golf Mk1 which shouuld make 350brake when it's run in and finally mapped .. the other one that springs to mind is an early tatty Pug 205GTi which you wouldn't give a second glance to on the road .. made 377bhp on my dyno! I love cars like that .. mental!

Thanks for the replies people. Progress has slowed at the moment due towork commitments, but hopefully i should have the doors, bonnet and bootlid painted as well as all the axles and wishbones painted too. I can start the actual build of it then. I have some real early mk1 bits to go into the interior and small bumpers etc for the outside too, but i may change its appearence when its done, and fill it full of roll cage and bucket seats

depending on how it goes of course. It may be completely undriveable on the track or the road and i may end up selling the lump and stickin a 16v on ITBS lol

That is one fantastic project! I always think its very hard to do a modified car without it looking like a 'Max Power' 17 yr-olds' wet-dream nightmare, but old VWs are one of those you can do it nicely with, and this really is nice. Love the engine work, btw. If you want to buy my old GT Polo and do something similar with it (its a family heirloom that I really dont want to sell!) get in touch! Good luck with the car & keep us posted.

the polo gt engine is a great engin, you can get those lumps upto 160 bhp quite easily. They were used in germany for one make racing and they really developed the engines well, but only so much could be done to keep the racing fair, as in all proddy racing

I know I love the GT! Trouble is I just bought an Alfa GTV V6 and only have space for one car, so the Polo is stuck at my Dads. But its 70k miles with full FSH and only one family owner since 1993... u know anyone wanting one, it only needs slight cosmetics to body and the interior is mint, give me a shout if you do but MUST be to good home!
