Don't know if anyone here has owned a Rover 216/416 from the early 1990s. It seems they have a deisgn problem resulting in water leaking into the car and filling up the front passenger footwell. Has anyone any suggestions on the best way to fix this short of getting a different car? I've heard the water might be coming in from the front wing, rather than than around the A pillar. Cheers.

Sounds like it might be coming through the holes that are in the bulkhead to get wires and stuff from the engine to the interior... you're probably best looking around that sort of area (bear in mind this is a guess)

My Cavalier did something similar, turned out the bit where the wiper motor & vent fans sits (under those vents beneath/in front of the windscreen) had a blocked drain. This was filling up and somehow leaking back into the car.

Clearing the drain fixed it.

Cheers for the helpful replies again. Admit I've only being asking questions here, but hopefully will be able to help out/answer others questions over time.
Will make a note to check these things out in (doh) no earlier than six weeks time.

Also check these out:

drainage holes in sills etc, if blocked (if this car has any!) it may find its way into the car

door seals - if perished, water may seep under the carpet.

heater matrix - if the footwell smells of coolant it may be the heater matrix or a coolant pipe.

hope this helps.
