After 3 years I fancied a change from my F31 335d.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I had it mapped last year to 390bhp and 650 lb/ft making it a serious quick car. With it being lowered it was a tough ride on the roads round me, and ultimately I got sick of this on a daily basis. I wanted something a bit more comfortable.

Enter my first Porsche and my first V8. It’s a 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS 4.8l V8 Petrol with 405bhp.

Here is a little sound clip I made of that glorious engine.

There are a couple of cayenne threads running now and it s clear they need upkeep. However, I got it for a good price and as per any 17 year old car, it has some niggles that need ironing out. I m looking forward to doing bits when I can. I originally wanted a black one but I knew it would drive me mad trying to keep it clean. I think the silver looks really clean and has aged well. I spent a good 5 hours cleaning the interior and getting it up to my standard.

Plans:
- Major service
- Replace number plates for clean ones
- Replace rear taillight that had condensation
- Full underside clean and rust proofing
- Full decontamination and machine polish
- New centre caps
- Transmission service
- Torque arm replacement

Not a single comment about that 4.8 V8 noise, tough crowd!

Here’s another angle for good measure!

I have been doing some jobs today to start to get the car up to my desired standard.

First job was to replace the rear light that had some moisture ingress.

These seem like tough performance motors. How did you get all that crap off the bodywork under the old plate?

Looks wise these are really coming around now.
In silver especially looks relatively timeless, very nice.

I’m not scared of running costs having ran a 996 c4s but how much worse can these be?

Brave!

The rear lights have breathers with a membrane material covering them. I'm guessing it gets clogged over the years. I drilled mine and they dried out nicely.

First time using this stuff from Koch Chemie. Very impressed with it, and it came off pretty easy despite being there for years with the various plate changes.

I justify it by saying to myself labour cost are the same regardless of the car!

I agree about silver, it’s a nice and covers marks well.

I have a little kitty for anything that crops up in near future. Major service items purchased and we will see what the garage finds!

4.8 GTS was one of my favourites over the years!

I bought mine in 2023 and ran it as a daily for over 12 months. Here are a couple of pics

It came with tons of silver accents around the doors and window frames. I like to DIY! I tried wrapping but it was awful so ended up masking up the whole car and spraying the door trims and window surrounds.

I had a couple of common issues go wrong.....which ended up costing a few £££s

Suspension pump - the car didnt sink but it would throw error codes when I put it into sport mode. Had the valve block changed - this didnt cure it....ended up with a new pump too!

Additionally the car felt a bit lumpy on tickover when I first got it. No EML but when I plugged it into my ICarsoft (BTW - these are great, saved me £££££s), it revealed a faulty camshaft variable valve timing actuator/solenoid. Bit of bugger to change it so I got a local specialist to it.

Other than that it was mega and I loved it. Sold it in the end for something a bit less thirsty.....

Enjoy it!

I love them in black! Carsoft is on my list to buy for sure. I was pleased this one doesn’t have the air suspension, or sunroof as I felt at this price range and age they were two things that could cause an issue.

I love a GTS. I keep pondering one as a daily to run along side the Rally Raid Cayenne I'm building....

Lovely car OP! Well purchased biggrin
