Following the death of my friends dad, rather than her going through the hassle of trying to sell dads car, she transferred it to me.
So, as I name most of my cars, say hello to Uncle Fester.

As Fester hadn't been driven for a while, the tyres were flat and the battery was completely dead. A window had been left open, there was mould on the steering wheel and some sort of green plant-life growing in the doors. Plus lots of cobwebs.

Pumped tyres, got it running, went through Tescos finest car-wash and took it for an Italian tune-up along the A14. It has no air-co, no cruise control, no satnav, no sun roof, but does have keep fit windows, It also has a strange musty smell. It actually drives pretty well for a 20 year old Fiesta, and feels like I'm doing 100mph at 40mph.

The plan is to give it a bit of a service and throw some new tyres on it then sell it and give the money to the family of the recently deceaseds dad, although they have said they don't want any money. That wouldn't sit well with me.

I was hoping to read this will be the outcome, good work!

Likewise, great to read.

I used to love turning cars like this around, you can do wonders on them in a day with a few products and graft.

Fantastic. Give it a new lease of life - that will clean up!

I bought our fester for £180, and saved it from the scrap man. It has been brilliant, with 2 kids learning to drive on it, and my wheels of choice for zipping around locally. Now on 185,000 miles.

Fantastic little project. It’ll make a great first car for someone or, heaven forbid, a school run car for parents who don’t need locking diffs and hill descent control.

Indeed, well done. I've just given something away of value and was similarly insistent on not receiving payment. Much debate ensued and we eventually agreed on a donation to a charity close to my heart. If they are really insistent and you'd feel bad keeping the money this could be a positive solution for all.

Hope the renovation goes well.

These seem to have disappeared pretty much now. Good job for resurrecting it!

Is there such a thing, really?

Time for Uncle Fester to have a health check.
But not before the most important item.

Instantly 30mph faster!

After a brief spin around the block to warm things up.....

Hmmm, what have we here?

It all looks fairly straightforward.

And underneath? I've seen better but definitely seen worse.

I like a nice, easily accessible oil filter, even if it IS rusty AF!

So, drop the oil
Which looks like it hasn't been done for a while.

And while thats draining, time for some new lungs.

The air filter box is attached with only two bolts.
But to split the box requires removal of ten bolts.

Spot the difference.

Oil filter removal.
As with most things in life, its always easier if you use the proper tool.

While thats draining, I'll do the plugs.
Not too bad, but new plugs are always good anyway.

As it says in the Haynes manual, re-assembly is the reversal of disassembly. Or something.
Time to top-up.[url]|https://forums-

And we're done.
It's always a slight worry but he started just fine. Will check levels and leaks in a mo, but all done. I managed to retain all my fingers, toes and eyes, and didn't even break anything.

Gratuitous multi car shot.

I think the Mk6 Fiestas are good little cars - there have been 3 in our house over time! Easy to look after as well and are great to drive.

OP - is it a 1.2, 1.4 or 1.6? Good job on the servicing - I am sure it'll be better for it.

Somewhat of a contrast versus the LS I bet, like opposite ends of the scale.

Sounds like you are doing a good turn op, always liked the fiesta. Have you done a thread on your Lexus?

My Mum's got one of these on a 54 plate. We call it the "cockroach car" for its refusal to ever die. I'm sure someone will snap this up (nearer Suffolk). How many miles has it done?

It’s done 77000 and I just learned the dad bought it new. A genuine one owner car. Or two if you include me.

I thought OP was asking if anybody would be interested in a thread on his Lexus rather than in buying his Fiesta.
