Evening all

Some of you may remember I rescued a beautiful XF 3.0 S Sportbrake from Copart.

Needed a complete front end and on my driveway went from ....

THIS....

To this....

I was REALLY proud of what I achieved. I knew that one of the bonnet catches needed adjusting......alas.....i didnt get round to it and the bonnet flew open resulting in this.....

Screen smashed, bonnet dented and importantly both front pillars mangled at the bottom.

I toyed with the idea of repairing but the insurance company made me a great offer and I decided to cut my losses and go car hunting again.

I like the idea of another big engine diesel turbo......i have two small people to look after and also liked the idea of 4 wheel drive.. ..

Ive always admired the A7 for its practicality combined with coupe - like design so the search was on.....

I wanted the Black Edition but they all seemed way out of budget (didnt want to spend more than 7-8k.) Id done well out of the Jag project - purchased for 1.5k, spent 1.5k insurance paid out 7.2k less excess

Then found one for sale privately - 3.0 245ps Black Edition, Grey, 21 inch wheels, black leather..... highish miileage at 140k but good history and lots of receipts. PS4S also a good sign!

Advertised at 7k - deal done at 6.6k.

Since owning, ive had all 4 wheels refurbed and a dent removed..... those PDR guys are bloody clever!

Here she is!

Impressions?
Quick enough - nice torquey drive and great for overtaking
Gearbox is lovely - multitronic but seemless changes
Sits very low and cornering is great - quattro is nice
Interior for an 11 year old car is very nice - leather, digital dash, full phone compatibility, tonnes of room
I also really like the wheels - the 21s fill the arches and now refurbed they look great
Economy - im getting full average of 39 mpg - over 45 on a run

Plans?
Ill get my DA out and do full correction
Possibly a remap to 300 bhp
Gearbox fluid change (they can be troublesome apparently!)

Great car!

That’s lovely! And for 6600, seems a great deal. I’m
Looking at one of these as a stop gap car if they come up around that kinda money, especially a black edition. The couple I’ve driven were really solid comfortable cars. Nice quality interior too. Transmission service kits will be on eBay for not a lot of money

Car will have the 7 speed Stronic (DSG) which is fitted to longitudinal VAG models not the Multitronic CVT.

Generally fairly reliable if serviced every 40k

Came here to post that, Quattros are only DSG or ZF 8 speed. FWD had the Multichronic.

Always had a soft spot for the A7, I think they look great.

Shame about the XF, you’d done a great job on it.

A7’s are great looking cars, I always double take when I see one.
Incredible value at 7k.

Great colour! Really shows off the curves.
Yes it’s an Stronic unless it’s a biturbo like I had which got the ZF 8 speed to handle the torque.
A set of Michelins is a very good sign it’s been cared for. I swapped the 21” wheels and the dunlops that came on them for the smaller 20” for a better ride… but the 21s do look good.
So solid inside too - that era of Audis really is well built. One of the best interiors I’ve had.

The colour really suits the car and the design has held up well for something that's over a decade old. Incredible VFM if you can look beyond the mileage and buy on condition and history.

I'll need to revisit this thread and read it fully. Sorry about the Jag.

The rear end of the A7 reminds me of the rear end of the Lamborghini Estoque.

Size wise I'd feel more comfortable in an A5 fastback.
