My Mother in Law has just bought a 19 plate 1.4 on 22k to replace the 55 plate Corsa that was on 27k, She loves the new one, its got Electric heated screen, Seats and Steering wheel, I guided her way from buying a newer Puretech 1.2 in favour of an older 1.4..

1.4 is a solid engine. No powerhouse but will run and run with regular servicing. Very little to go wrong with them. If anything it’ll be the ancillaries that cause issues. Wife’s Astra has had new water pump and air-con compressor recently but at nearly 12 yrs old, I can’t complain.

Yep the old 1.4 GM unit is a solid workhorse if a little flat old time engine should give no trouble unlike the st 1.0 and 1.2 3 cylinder chocolate engines that replaced them in the name of economy lol.

Also contrasts with the 1.4 injection fitted to the Astra K which is a ticking timebomb with crankshaft float issues meaning terminal and a very expensive replacement fix.... for many a writeoff.

Best older GM engine is of course the 1.6 16 V 200 bhp in the Astra K 2016 to 2019 which is currently used in the latest hybrids for one reason and one reason only..it is smooth, powerful, economical and gives very little trouble.

That looks like a sound buy - I hope your Mrs enjoys it.

I remember finding a Corsa 1.4 CD for my niece years ago, but that dated from 1999. But when I drove it home from collection I really liked it.

Thanks, we were looking at a Hyundai i10 that the garage had but I could tell my Mrs wasn't struck on it when she test drove it, parked next to the Hyundai was this Corsa and I could tell she preferred it

Is this the weird 100hp turbo model?

Good engines, and even better it's the simpler 1.4 n/a variant.

Pretty robust little things, bit lethargic but who cares it will get you there.

I’m sure it will be a dependable buy.

I’ve done around 700miles in this over the last few days. I think it’s powered by the 1.0 3 cylinder engine rather than the 1.2 - there’s no badges and I can’t be arsed lifting the bonnet. But, it does everything you need. It’s done 140k km’s (hard ones I reckon) but there are no rattles or creaks inside and it will hum along at 120kmh all day long. It’s well equipped with Apple CarPlay & a touch screen etc & has a pretty spacious cabin and boot.

In order to keep things all Pistonheads - pictured at the Ascari circuit entrance

The Corsa is home, seen here with my Focus. It had a fresh MOT and service before we picked it up, they replaced the front brake pads and the water pump

Smart-looking cars, these. My only complaint I had with this and the previous Corsa D (when compared to the B or C) is that they mostly had the same engines with minimal changes, but where the Corsa C weighed under a tonne with the 1.4, the D and E are both well over 100kg heavier. In most cases the old C was better on petrol.

Interior is horrid on my C, mind.
