My New Car: 2024 Mini Cooper S (F66)
Picked up a 2024 Mini Cooper S (new shape) about a week ago, and I’m loving it so far. I came from an Audi S3, which was great, but I fancied something smaller, cheaper to run, and still fun to drive and the Mini seemed the best choice from what I test drove. ( new car prices have gone crazy, everything seems to be 40k+ nowadays )
It drives like a go-kart, actually feels quicker around town than the s3 as the power is all down low, and the interior is surprisingly impressive. Drives a bit softer than the previous shape model from my test drives but good for day to day.
Honestly, the quality feels as good as, if not better than, the Audi, and the touchscreen is easy to use once you get the hang of it. It’s also night and day so far on running costs—getting 38-40mpg around town compared to the S3’s 18-21mpg. Insurance is half, tax is less than half, so all-round was a no brainer.
Paid £25,800 with some discount, for it with all the options I could ever need, which feels like a steal compared to something like the GR Yaris, which is pushing £40k now. The Mini feels unchallenged in its segment with 200bhp and at this price point / small?
Hoping to get a few good road trips in soon, but if anyone’s thinking about one of these and is on the fence, I’d say go for a test drive, think it will suprise you.
Don’t see me doing any mods as I specced it just how I wanted it, but I’ll post some road trip photos for sure.

Nice. I have a '18 plate Cooper S. I like the the exterior design, a lot of current mini owners don't. BUT, I do find the interior a bit of a challenge.
Enjoy though, I moved from a Jag XFS, the only things I miss about the Jag is the 4 doors and room inside for passengers. 99% of the time though it's a better car for me. Really fun to drive, but also a bit more grown up.
I did some exterior mods, a full dechrome, but apart from that, I don't intend to change much else.

I have a 2023 Cooper S, so the previous model, and its performance is excellent. Feels quicker than it is due to tonnes of low down torque and excellent throttle response, yet still does over 50mpg easily on a run. A 150 mile run at motorway speeds last week yielded 60mpg. Crazy.

your right, they do feel quicker than they are. I had a 2012 JCW which was like a pocket rocket, but I much prefer my Cooper S. Of course, the JCW then was 210bhp, the Cooper S is 192bhp, so really not that far off. And a decent £500 tune/ map will see 250bhp+ if needed. I'm averaging just over 46mpg on a mix of (mainly) commute and longer mway drive. I'm happy with that as my Jag was around 25mpg.
I'd like to take the new version for a test drive, and getting that for £25k seems like a really good buy. OP keep us updated how it's going.
Really nice choice, I might be biased as my daily is a 2017 Cooper S, standard apart from a de-chrome.
It replaced an '05 Clio 182 Cup, so had big shoes to fill, which it does suprisingly well.
With RenaultSport gone & everything else circa £40,000 as you say, these Minis have become a bit of a go-to option.

I did a carwow search and got all the prices from the dealers across the country. Then took the best price to my local dealer and said if they could beat it I would buy through them.
Car feels great on British roads, mainly drive down tiny country roads or city driving so it’s ideal for that. At this price it really makes sense, easy to spec one of these up to 35k and suddenly it’s competing with a lot of other cars for the money.

I remember putting £5k worth of options on mine, so it can quickly mount up I reckon. In standard guise I think it was £20k, so all in £25k at the time(2017). I still miss my old one in many ways for sure, and I enjoyed every drive of it. My current F82 M4 has loads of performance over and above the Cooper S, but there was just something about the Mini that I absolutely loved though.
