I've been in company cars for 20 years now.

The depressing list, some real beauties...hehe

Renault Scenic
Peugeot 307 (hand-me down, needed £2k spending at MOT time...)
Mazda 6
Vauxhall Insignia (awful, always broken)
Ford Mondeo (base spec, grim)
Ford Grand C-Max (what was I thinking?)
Bmw 116d (great thing, astonishing MPG)
Skoda Superb SEL (loved it, 110k in 3 years)
VW Arteon (great car, piss engine)
VW Tiguan (BIK high)

I used to drive a minimum of 30k a year pre-covid and technically worked from home..office was (is) 215 miles each way and I have a severe aversion to Public transport hehe

Post Covid and we've changed how we work, less focus on office time so the mileage has dropped by circa 50%. This new plan and a change of leasing company from a local to global offering gave us the opportunity to chop in our current lease cars, pay the small early termination fee (£150) and take the cash..

We had been waiting for around 6 months for a decision from HR. In usual HR fashion, we got an email last Tuesday and an agreement was made for mine to be returned this week and the cash allowance (and significant BIK liability saving) to start from the next pay day.

I'm quite a decisive person, done my homework and knew that I wanted a Model Y LR, found this one at a VW dealer in the Midlands (who were great), spec:

Midnight Silver (it's grey ffs)
Black leather
20" wheels (brand new Pilot Sport EV tyres)
2 years old
35k
Towbar (won't be required)
LR model

Just under a 50% reduction from RRP smile

So 8 days between HR sending the email and this being on my drive. My son loves it, and I managed to nearly make the Wife vomit with the acceleration (it's mad).
Drives amazingly well on the motorway, crashy round town but I love it

Already tested out the Superchargers and it works an absolute dream...

It's going to 'save' me around £350/month with the allowance, BIK saving and fuel savings so not to be sniffed at.

I will keep those updated given EVs are a hot topic right now (not because they set on fire).

I couldn’t make the numbers work on an EV on our car allowance so I got an EV6 company car. As a tool for work I don’t think you can beat an EV.
I’m not a Tesla fan but they’re still the EV to beat. I drove my mate’s dual motor Model 3 when he first got an EV and still laugh when I think about how quick it was.
You weren’t lying about your company car history lol.
Enjoy

Rude hehe

Our old and future car list doesn't have EVs. Strange really.

I thought most company car lists were moving to EVs so strange that yours isn't. Hopefully you still get 45p/mile for company mileage, it'll pay for itself laugh

No such luck...(On both counts)

I'll still be making profit on the mileage, but not as much as 45p/mile..

I went from a C300 Coupe to a BMW i4 on our company car scheme and the monthly savings are insane! The Merc looked nicer and felt more special inside to me, but as a car the i4 is hard to beat. So comfy, fast and importantly so easy to drive.
I did try a Model Y as it was my front-runner but the seats gave me a numb leg after 30 minutes and I couldn't handle that screen. Fast and spacious though!

How do they know you're not using a petrol car for work mileage? If you have to charge at a public charger, 9p/mile will have you underwater on work mileage won't it?

You have to register a car on the expense system.
I'll be charging at home and then for free at the office. Even on the rare occasions I'll need to supercharge I'll still break even at worse..

A lot of companies will only pay the fuel element of the 45ppm allowance if they're also giving you a "car allowance"

I have had my 3 LR for nearly 5 years now (longest time I have had a car!) and at at 105,000 miles with heavy commuting. It's been brilliant and the running costs have been less than a pub meal out with a family of 5 - seriously. About £200 in 5 years apart from tyres.

I am not a tesla fanboy in any way, but the car is amazing.

Yours looks great - very good value.

Thanks, they dropped it by £1k a few days before I contacted them. I was happy with the deal, especially considering the spec, new tyres etc.

You claim the tax back on the difference though, so you'll get some more out of it than the bare allowance.

Yeah, that's true.
If I've done the quick maths correctly it should be another £150/mth for you.

Tesla gets a lot of hate on here but I absolutely love my wife’s Model 3, fantastic family car. Steers well for what it is, goes well, costs nothing to run, good tech, and the kids love it.

As this is PH here's some balance

It'll run out charge every 10 miles when it's slightly chilly, or burst in to flames and kill your family every other week.
And it's just a fridge on wheels and you should hand your man-card in as you get kicked out of the door
Oh and enjoy the £15,000,000 bill to replace the battery (that destroyed half the world to produce) once a year.

Oh and don't forget you are now a right wing fascist Elon fanboi

There balance restored.

[Owns a model Y and agrees it's just bloody brilliant and makes every other car I drive feel like a museum piece. Enjoy the ride and the savings]

Which dealer and are they an EV specialist? They seem to have done you a good deal.

It's from Parkway VW (Derby). From chatting to the salesman., I think they cherry pick from auction/lease companies and sell the nicer models.
