Seen a couple of these on here so thought I'd throw mine into the mix. Decided recently that I needed to take on the family car duties so the wife can swap into a smaller car. An estate was always the preferred approach and of the various options the V70 ticked a lot of boxes. Picked this up last month

So it's petrol, manual, has turbo, plenty big enough and sounds nice. The kids like the sunroof and that the wing mirrors fold in.
This one came with good service history, evidence of cambelt change and looks to have been looked after.

Inside is a lovely sea of beige. It's growing on me

So far the main issue has been water dripping in from the interior light. Common problem apparently caused by the windscreen bonding failing. Local windscreen fitter knew exactly what I was on about when I called and were able to remove and re glue the screen in.

Probably got some service items to attend to, and want to clean up the underside a little, will try and update here if only to remind myself what I've done!

Great family bus! Had an older S60 2.0T 5 pot and despite it being the bog standard model of the range, it thoroughly impressed. Sounded good, went well and I’m sure your later, more powerful version has many of the same strengths. Stay on top of the maintenance and I’m sure it’ll be a worthy workhorse. Enjoy!

Had a mixed week with the old bus. Took a trip to Wales which was a nice 2 and a bit hour jaunt; mostly dual carriageway work then some more interesting country roads and a few hills. Trip claims an average of 23MPG overall, with nearer 30 being seen on the flat at motorway speeds.
Later in the week had an afternoon out cycling, kids bikes went in the boot no bother. Then a Screwfix trip, no worries about getting a 3m length of waste pipe home here. Loving the practicality and how un-assuming it is.

The time on the road gave me chance to ponder on what needs sorting out.
1. Noticed the OSR door wasn't locking. This seems intermittent, mostly it's fine but sometimes needs a few lock/unlock cycles to work. Internet wisdom suggests I'll have to remove the door card and investigate the lock mechanism at some point.
2. NSF window is possessed. When pressing the switch it does what it wants, sometimes vaguely related to whats asked of it. Need to look into it a bit more and try to figure out if its the switch end or motor end thats misbehaving.
3. The dash keeps telling me maintenance is overdue. Hopefully I can reset that somehow.
4. Need a set of better mats, and one for the boot, before the kids ruin the carpets.
5. Assess the condition of the sills and general underneath areas.

Quite a short list when its written down!

Yesterday I gave it a damn good washing and gave the underside a good pressure washing. Today I thought I'd look more closely underneath, so got the nearside in the air and took off the sill cover (must remember to buy lots more of those plastic clips).
Why do I always buy the rusty ones.

Now this isn't the only patch, but is the worst area. (Must remember to get more welding gas)

This bit is solid once cleaned up

Must remember to get some rust converter. Few more patches like this underneath that look suspicious but thought I'd leave it there, great way to start the week.

Got a few hours of rust repair ahead then. My Xtype of similar vintage was in much worse condition so this doesn't seem so bad by comparison. Luckily this is all out of sight so I can effect a functional repair and not have to worry about making it look good.

At least the rest of it looks good now it's been washed. Assuming the carbon effect bits aren't factory.

The rust is adding more lightness than this is

Regarding the door locks, common on this era of Volvo. Complete lock assemblies are eye wateringly expensive however you can strip said lock down (plenty YouTube stuff) and it'll either be the motor which is basically a Scalextric motor with a worm cog that can fail and costs about 20p from China or it'll be wear in the plastic cogs / levers and thus it can get sticky... mine wouldn't lock on the first press but once deadlocked, it'd actuator the lock a bit more thus locked the car. Mondeo locks are nigh on identical bar a couple of bits to swap from the Volvo unit. I think I paid about a tenner for four from a breaker to then build three functioning locks on my old one. All fairly easy and thus cheap if you're reasonably competent.

Good buses these! Often look at these in the classifieds thinking "hmmm, should I swap my shed for one" a 5 pot petrol one of course would be a nice thing like yours, interested to see how you get on with it tbh.

Seem's to be more 5 cylinder 2.4 diesels about, not sure I am brave enough to run a diesel on a shed budget at this level, albeit they are quite robust.

Cracking interior too!
