Splendid. Here's to many happy miles.

Always curious with these sorts of things why they were laid up in the first place.

Was great grandma's car then passed to grandma's and eventually to Dad back in the late 90's, was just stored in their barn from then as he didn't use it, just kept for sentimental reasons

Wow, absolutely fantastic. My first car in 1991 was a 1983 mk3 1.6 Ghia. I thought I was the bees knees! The fact is its a really rare car now as its a 3 door Ghia. Looking forward to updates.

That's a real trip down memory lane. I remember them being a real game-changer for Ford at the time, and they used to be everywhere!

A mate got given a 1.3 Ghia for his 21st birthday in 1981, my employer bought a 1982 1.1 Pop as a pool car, my aunt and uncle bought a new 1.6 Ghia in 1984, my Mum bought a 1982 1.3GL in 1985 and my sister had a 1982 1.6 Ghia as her second car.

But apart from the miserly pool car (no HRW, no passenger door mirror, rubber mats on the floor, etc.) they were all 5 doors, so a 3 door Ghia must have always been a rare sight.

It's great to see it being saved. thumbup

My perfect shell find , I'd be straight on the phone to Dennis Moody begging him to recreate his infamous DM3 from the 80s , a true work of art and by his own admission the best car he ever built .

back in 1995 My first Car was an utter deathtrap of a 1.3 escort estate. I was given it for free (possibly to get me off of motorbikes). It was a MOT fail my uncle patched up.
Happy memories, particularly parking it at P&A wood among the rolls royces.

This was the car in 1983 when the lads great grandma bought it, it was originally sold new in Berlin as a UK spec car to a female services personnel, she literally bought it then drove it back to uk and sold it to a ford dealer with around 500 miles on it, I remember it being a thing back in the 80's, it was cheaper to order a UK spec car in Germany and drive it back than buy over here, I suspect she bought the 3 door as it was cheaper than the 5 door?? Nice bit of history either way 👍

after passing my test the first car I had access to was my dads 'A' reg mk3 Escort Ghia.
His was a 5dr 1.6 in metallic light blue.

The head gasket went 6 months later, I got blamed for it whistle

Rumours were the Ghia's were made in a different factory from the cooking models?

Brings back memories, the number of those that came through the car dealers I worked at.

My mates mum had a lower spec one, it replaced a Morris Ital, we had a bit of fun with a recording of a phone ringing that we put in the stereo and pressed play on when at the lights with the windows down, then would pick up the handset of the old phone stuck between the front seats biggrin

Remember Paul that I worked with at the garage, we sold one and part of the deal was it was to be serviced. Now Paul liked a spliff and the boss was out at the auction so he made full use, a nice quiet morning, nice weather, radio on, doors open and a spliff on the go. He dropped the oil on the Escort, changed the filter, then filled it back up. He started it back up after the oil change and was sat there grinning like a loon revving the engine along with the radio. He moved it out and left it idling as he moved another car. It was at this point that I noticed the big puddled of 20W50 all over the floor, daft tt in his weed haze had neglected to replaced the sump plug. I cant remember the outcome, we cleaned up and put more oil in but seem to remember it came back with an engine problem.

Love seeing proper survivors like this, especially as its not an obvious one to save, usually just RS Turbos and XR3s.
