0a's sub £3k bargain Porsche Boxster 2.7
Discussion
I appear to have given into temptation again and bought a car offered to me in the old Barge chat group...
May I introduce my 139k mile billy basic Porsche Boxster 2.7.
These little things drive very well. Not quick - compared to some of my other cars anyway - but boy do they handle and steer well. That flat 6 engine is quite pleasant, strange to be sitting next to it behind you rather than having it out front.
I collected it from another chat member, and set out on a 366 mile journey. As you do. Like an idiot. It was great. I really enjoyed it, despite the torrential rain.
It's got that feeling of an older car - before all the controls became ultra light, and interiors stopped being logical.
Plans for it? Just run it for now. It needs an exhaust bracket and rear tyres at some point in the future. But that's in the future!
I was one of those "not a proper Porsche", "hairdresser car" etc when these come out. But I think these have aged superbly, and have some lovely design features.
The boot at the back and "frunk" mean it's pretty practical as well. Clever packaging.
I'm sure it will blow up at some point, but it hasn't so far in the last 139k miles!

Fun!
And great price.
Also at 140k miles, it's probably unlikely to have one of the exploding engines. Might be worthwhile getting an oil/metal check once a year, anyway, as it's only about £40 for the test.
One thing you should do is get a Gundo hack on the exhaust.

This is only the second Porsche I have driven. The first being a 918 Spyder.
This may have been a bit of an impulse buy!
Brilliant! I had an early 2.7 approx 10 years ago which i bought for £5k. Like you say they're not quick, but sound great and the handling is incredible, I couldn't believe the speed I could take certain corners in!
I had to do a bit of TLC on mine, the rear arms and a new MAF (not to self, never buy non genuine again!)
I also upgraded the throttle body to a 996 one and part of the intake, can't remember exactly but it seemed to improve low down grunt (I think it was a known mod at the time)
I could never quite get comfortable as I felt I was staring at the top of the windscreen and the seat was too high. It was better in this regard than the S2000 I was also looking at for £5k (that would probably be worth more now!)
I am sure you will have plenty of fun with it.
I put a cheapo Toyosport back box on mine (as it was dirt cheap) and it sounded like a GT3 on full chat but the drone around 3k revs was horrendous. Something to do with there being no pipe between the individual back boxes.
For less than £3k this is an outrageous bargain!

That looks great! Don't think I'd have been able to turn it down for £3k either. Decent colour too...
Has the to-do list grown at all??? Am I right in saying these are kinda slightly more durable than the 996 with IMS bearings etc failing?? Or just as bork worthy?

In case no one noticed, the trick with 0A is to suggest many interesting parts that would enhance the experience, as despite claims no money may be spent, in about a week... macron said:
