After buying one of these last year with a dud engine I really liked them as an all round package, however it had been painted in the past, not particularly well and I moved it on after fitting a replacement engine.

I was offered this one from a trader that sold it a few years ago after his customer traded it back into him. He knew I liked them and I bought it over the phone.

What he failed to mention was it has had a few choice upgrades, full height Airtec Intercooler, Milltek exhaust, Forge intake, R sport crossover pipe and a Stage 2 map.

It looks stock however biggrin

After finding this out my initial plan of fixing the broken front springs and prepping it for sale changed. I sold my 335i touring to keep this.

I cannot think of anything that offers the bang for buck that these do, the running costs are sensible and are a damn good steer. The upgrades certainly make it no slouch either.

It needs new brakes and tyres which will be done in the coming weeks but I’m loving being back in one, Mrs MRT sold her Golf R32 a few weeks ago and she’s warming to this too which is a bonus.

I had one of these when new in 2017 and I do miss mine. I did ASBO mine up a bit but it was "stage 2+" with pumaspeed so was running at around 245hp. Being so light it did used to like upsetting businessmen in their 3.0TDI Audi/BMW/Merc's which I found absolutely hilarious being 18 at the time.

They are great cars

I would be happy to replace mine with another when the time comes.

Mine is on its way to 140 thousand miles and will likely be there by its 10th birthday next year.

Cosmetically it looks its age but mechanically its wanted and needed next to nothing over those miles other than routine servicing and consumables.

That's impressive. I'd love one of these at some point.

I had one new in 2013 and absolutely loved it. I would like another but seems you are lucky to find one these days that hasn’t been used and abused really.

It's a great car. I plan to keep mine forever if possible and have a YouTube channel dedicated to the modifications I performed to get it to stage 2 (235hp, 390nm torque): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2DwBfu6SDmuo-g...

and a thread here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Next on the list is a GFB diverter valve, and suspension modifications have been started by fitting a whiteline rear ARB. An LSD and new shocks/springs will be coming over the next 12 months.

I truly have the modifiying bug for this one, but will keep the exterior of the car standard.

I had a ST2 from 2014-2023. I loved it.
If you're doing the brakes, change the slider pins on the rear calibers.
They're a weak point, as is the handbrake mechanism.

Look forward to your updates.

There is a guy on here that has a seriously modified one running 300+bhp I think.

Every time I read about it I seriously think it must be hard to beat as a relatively cheap fast do it all hatchback and go looking at o see what’s for sale.

Be careful though reading the following thread could lead to a rapid departure of cash from your wallet.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Edited to add - sorry I see Jacko has already replied about his.

Dam I’m off to see the classifieds again.

Get one pre modified (if you dare, tis a minefield) but its so much cheaper to buy one pre done if you are taking that route.

Its so much fun to give an M3 etc owner a fright, its not faster, obviously, its not as fast but its enough to give them a shock.

Need to book another track day, just had a lot of house related expense of late !

Get one, just make sure you can live with the ride, its a little "Uncompromising".

A bit more love for this than I expected tbh, certainly more than I got from my friends on FB biglaugh

On Friday I fitted a new boost pressure sensor as it felt a touch lacking over 3k rpms and a replacement forge filter as the previous foam item disintegrated, these appear to have rectified the issue and it’s back to how it should be.

I’m hoping to get the rear brakes done at the weekend, along with the ones on the 911

I think over time they will be more appreciated, still regarded as a bit of a knoheads car biggrin

Its funny, you speak to people into older Fast Fords and they talk like they should not be mentioned in the same sentence as legends like the RS2000, RS Turbo and the like, but those cars were regarded similarly back in period, its only time, nostalgia and scarcity thats fostered that, not that the cars were actually that amazing relative to what has come since.

I think you’re right, there’s too many still in the wrong hands I guess.

Modern fast fords I think are a taboo subject with the classic brigade, but you make a very valid point those classics were good but in the grand scheme of things not much from that era was ever amazing

More love for this here!

I had one from new in 2016 and kept it for 5 years. Absolutely brilliant little hot hatch imo.

I'll be revisiting at some point in the not too distant future.

That made me smile as I was probably in that category when I had my RS2000 and 2.8 Capris back in the 80s!

They were special then, but would be underwhelming now.

Who knows, maybe in 30 years time these Fiestas will be the desirable Fast Fords. laugh

I would argue that the MK7 ST180 is probably the last properly affordable hot hatch

I bought mine in 2017 at 2 years old with 23k on the clock for £10.8k and I think a brand new ST1 model started at £17K might even have been a £5 under that?

The next generation were all into the 20s as far as I can recall with the top of the line edition versions topping out at almost £30k for a 3dr fiesta hot hatch.

They are also fast enough to be fun but not as fast as you can't enjoy it or it becomes intimidating, they can also do well over 40mpg if you try and service parts are cheap.
