After (nearly!) 2 years of Tesla driving we (Mrs DG and I) have decided to drop the elecrickery of Tesla and go back to dino-juice power. There are a few reasons for this - chief among them being our very disogranised/spontaneous lifestyle (we like to be able to go out on a moment's notice without worrying if there's a charger en-route or if we're fully charged - not to mention the whole 40 minutes to charge rigmarole).

Initially we had decided to look at the GLC, having had one before, but things took a strange(ish) turn when it appeared we could have a Macan for similar money with a more interesting choice of colours. After a little more fannying about we ended up choosing an 'S' (2.9 V6) over a base model or 'T' (both 4-pot) on the basis that there wasn't a huge price differential on the 'nearly new' (< 18months old) side of things. As you may have guessed from the colour comment related to the GLC the standard colours weren't going to cut it which made life a little more interesting especially since the specs of the used cars were wildly different: I'd go as far as to say in 40 odd years of driving I've never seen such variations within one model.

Anyway long story short we're collecting the below tomorrow whereupon there'll be a load more pics and an initial impression as to how it drives - both compared to the Tesla and my own Challenger.

And below is the spec:

Exterior Colours
Papaya Metallic
Wheels
20-inch Macan S wheels in Dark Titanium
18-inch collapsible spare wheel

Exterior
SportDesign exterior mirrors with mirror base painted in Black (high-gloss)
Side window trims in Black (high-gloss)
Panoramic roof
Deletion of Model Designation
7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)
Adaptive Air Suspension with PASM
Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus)
Sport Chrono Package incl. mode switch
Sports exhaust with black tailpipes
75 litre fuel tank
LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus)
Privacy glass

Interior
Brushed aluminium interior package
Porsche Crest on front headrests
Heated multifunction GT sports steering wheel
Standard interior in Black Seats
Adaptive Sports seats front (18-way, electric) with comfort memory package

Technology
Speed limit indicator
Lane Change Assist (blind spot monitoring)
Surround view camera system
Adaptive cruise control
Ioniser
Preparation Porsche Dashcam
Burmester® High-End Surround Sound System

I will admit that I'd, likely, have put on heated windscreen, full leather, contrasting stitching and missed off the Burmester, that said though it does seem (to me!) to be a very well spec'd example so not really any complaints...

Looks lovely that, somebody on my estate has one and the colour really pops and makes it look quite a special car.

I think this generation of macan will do exceptionally well depreciation wise given the new one’s electric.

Is having a collapsible spare wheel a good idea ?.

TBF I'm not entirely sure I can be bothered with one (the extra space might be more useful) and would likely just keep a can of inflatorgunk for a minor puncture until I can get to a tyre shop (or rely on AA/RAC/etc)

Well everyday is a school day. Never even knew about collapsible tyres before. Nice colour and spec BTW.

You can? Wife has a 2017 GLC, would like to upgrade to a 2022 car, and would like a Macan S, but they're coming out a hell of a more expensive than the GLC. In fact, we've seen the GLC43 for less money than a Macan S.

when we started looking we decided on a GLC300 (didn't want diesel or hybrid) and once you started specing things up I think we were into mid-60's - the similar spec Macan was high 60's (albeit with worse MPG). Upon sitting in the 2 Mrs DG felt more comfortable in the Macan (to her it felt 'smaller', which is interesting as they're virtually identical) and then there was the choice of colours where Porsche has MB well beaten (even if you ignore the stupidly priced custom paints).

In the end we went for a 14 month/10k mile old one at a substantial saving over a new one, although a GLC would have been a bit cheaper (with the option of HUD, which the MAcan doesn't have) the colour and feel justified it.
