Jaguar F Type V6S (2013)
Discussion
I've always enjoyed Readers' Cars threads but have never done one, so here we go.
I've really enjoyed the cars I have had in the past, the one I regret selling is my Lotus Elise 111R. Gone but not forgotten..sold to a German buyer around 2012.
At the same time I had my Elise, I had a Maserati 4200. What a beauty. And what a nightmare. Unfortunately lived up to the reputation and broke down every two months or so. There is never a cheap fix for a Maserati!
This was leaving a PH meet at MB World in Weybridge. After being traded in, I believe it went to Australia.
This was traded in for an Evora. I took a while to like this car but again ended up loving it.
The clutch failed at 35,000 miles. £5,000 fix. I got an indie to look at it and they said that the clutch had never been properly disengaging. I spoke to Lotus but little chance of goodwill, so sold it to a Lotus dealer with the clutch un-fixed. I was left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth and vowed to never buy another Lotus.
Next was a 987 Boxster 3.4s in 2015 - the longest I have ever owned a car in the end. Sold a month ago after being up sale for some time. Great car, will have another at some point.
When I sold that, I still had an MX5 to sell so I thought I would not buy anything else until that was done.
That vow lasted three weeks, with the MX5 still for sale.
I had been looking at F Types for a while. A friend had a 2023 5.0 V8 which I have driven a fair bit and is a monster. I was not too bothered about v8 or v6, and do prefer the look of the pre-facelift - which is handy as I did not want to spend loads.
I saw one in Glasgow that was really keenly priced. And only 15,000 miles - although for an 11 year old car there is the worry that it hasn't really been used.
Anyway, a few chats and emails and then an Easy Jet flight from Gatwick later and I was viewing it.
The owner picked me up from the airport in it - and what a stunner!
Deal done, drove down to North Wales from Glasgow and a few days there before the trip back home to Hampshire.
A tesco car park somewhere off the M6..
North Wales
More updates and thoughts to come, now I have got this post up.

I drove back very sedately from Glasgow to North Wales. No sports exhaust or paddle flipping.
It did about 32 mpg on the trip overall - 90% motorway. Very civilised.
In North Wales I went out for a trip around Snowdonia and then I discovered just how the Dynamic button transformers the experience.
What a noise. I have never known a car like it. Take it out of manual, change up on the paddles and the crack around 4,000+ rpm is amazing. I will never get bored of that.
So, 32MPG from Glasgow to North Wales. Then I started using Dynamic mode and am now rarely out of it. Average MPG since I picked it up is now 26 MPG.
I love it. I appreciate there is always a honeymoon period when we buy a new car to us. It is the best car evah. But I do love this.
Downsides: It is not as nimble as my Boxster. I can feel the extra weight. And it is wiiiidde. Or at least feels that - but I have got used to it.

Some great car history there OP.
I've always thought the F-Type Coupes looked great, and your car is a stunning colour. I've been on a few runs with V6S F-Types and they sound fantastic!
Thank you - I've enjoyed your posts about your Z4M - I think that is a stunning looking coupe, and the perfect size as everything has got more bloated.I've always thought the F-Type Coupes looked great, and your car is a stunning colour. I think the FType coupe is better looking than the convertible - but I really like to get the roof down!

A lovely car history there as Mr Tidy has said.
I've always loved the F-Type, and I think it is a great looking car. I've been loosely browsing them recently as well.
Enjoy your new motor.
Thanks Lee - my other car is a Tesla though!I've always loved the F-Type, and I think it is a great looking car. I've been loosely browsing them recently as well.

They are cheap as chips I think second hand. I was looking at 991 911s too but that was another £25k+.
I am very happy and will try and get a recording of the exhaust "cracking".
But in the meantime, this is a brilliant video that really swung me to getting one.
Superb looking car, I really like these and they look great value for money. A couple of years ago 7 of us drove down to Le Mans to watch the 24h, all the Le Mans cars were stacked on the same deck on the ferry and there was a lot of nice stuff but my resounding memory is just how great these sounded stock - they absolutely owned the Cold Start compeition!
Sorely tempted with one as off to the F1 at Spa next year so shopping for a suitable stead, Le Mans was done in a 997.1 Carrera convertible which was sensational and I have great memories of that trip.
Keep us posted with your ownership, I am interested to see how you find it.

When I bought my 987 Boxster in 2015 I was thinking about a 997 convertible instead and do sort of regret not going. I think they were around early £30k back then, comapred to around £16k for my Boxster. I do want to have a 911 one day, maybe the next car after this one. Still think the 997 is the best shape in recent years. Keep us posted with your ownership, I am interested to see how you find it.

I've got two garages, one with a door and one without a door.
The car does not fit in the one with a door so goes in the other one.
However, the neighbourhood cat loves sitting on a softop overnight - I had the same problem with my Boxster and my son's Mx5. I have always put up with it, but end up with paw prints up the bonnet or roof, depending on which way the car is parked.
I now have an ultrasonic cat scarer... tried it last night just leaving it under the car and, result! No hairy roof.
I need to figure a more permananet setting for it so it still catches the little st if it tries in the future.
Any other "keeping cats away" tips greatly received.

Keep the sonic scarer going, just fix it to the wall or similar. The car does not fit in the one with a door so goes in the other one.

Even though we have 2 cats, our neighbours have 4 also. So we've one in the front garden to stop them using the central bed as the litter box... It soon encouraged them all to bugger off into the woods

Funnily enough both the F-Types were owned by former Z4 owners, so they were allowed to join Z4 runs!

Thanks Dan - I am going to have a look this weekend at getting it fixed somewhere where it is still line of sight hopefully to scare the cat...As the FType is quite long so the boot is near the entrance, I don't want the cat taking a running jump from outside the open garage and dodging the defences!Even though we have 2 cats, our neighbours have 4 also. Interesting car and the top gear video was great. Have you found the suspension to be as hard as he states?
I think it is firm but not overly so. I does appear to be harder in Dynamic mode, I am assuming that stiffens the suspension. It is noticeable over the odd small pothole, but not something that I have felt for the majority of the time. In normal mode, I think it is fine.

I'll be watching this thread closely. I want a 2 seater convertible as my next car, and the F Type is very much on the list.
If I count the MGF I had in the 1990s, this is my 4th 2 seater convertible.I reckon the perfect all-rounder is still a boxster. I did a couple of roads trips down to Germany and Italy in that. Also not as wide as the FType, lighter and just handles great.
Obligatory pic:
I think another great two seater, often overlooked, is the BMW Z4 M40. This was on my list. I did a road trip to Scotland in the middle of the range Z4 a few years back and it was brilliant.
A great choice I think if it was going to be an every day driver and still special. I had a BMW M240 before my Tesla and that is a fantastic engine, in my amateur opinion.
The FType, though, is a great GT and definitely the car I have had with the most drama/theatre by a long way.
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Z4 M40i as well. I didn't really gel with my Z4M Roadster, because the manual gearbox drove me mad(especially first to second), and the ride/suspension was miles to stiff for my tastes too. The suspension just didn't have much compliance to it on bumpy B roads for me.
However I could definitely see myself in a M40i though, and I've also always quite fancied a 6 cylinder E89 Z4 as well.

I really liked my 2016 M240. Civilised for normal driving and a real hooligan when you wanted it. I think we are perhaps a similar age - what I like about those 1 and 2 series with that engine is it reminds me of mid 90s bmw 3 series ( I never know the E numbers) before too many cars got so much bigger. A 330bhp engine in a car that size - perfect.
