E91 335i Daily
Discussion
I wasn’t going bother with a thread on this but I thought as it’s quite a rare beast it was worth sharing.
I picked it up from a member on an E91 page on FB, I wasn’t even looking for one but as Aberdeen now has a ULEZ zone and it was priced less than a 320d (I’ll get to that bit) it made no sense not to buy it.
This is my 3rd E91 335 but my first petrol one.
Those were two of the pictures used in the advert, I’ll be honest I don’t like the black grilles, front flipper things, carbon rear diffuser or the wheels.
Standard petrol station shot upon collecting it.
As stated it was cheap as it has rattling wastegates and an overboost issue, the remap that was on it has been replaced with stock software and at the moment it’s behaving, I have a pair of standard turbos I may get rebuilt I’m still undecided.
The first task was to rid it of those horrible gel plates and the black grilles. EBay came up trumps with 4cylinder grilles as I prefer the black slats and a set of plates were sourced from the local dealer.
Next was the aftermarket rear valance, again cheap tat that I wasn’t a huge fan of so it was replaced with a new OEM item from BMW.
I did try and remove the flipper things from the bumper but these were fitted using sikaflex and as a result has damaged the bumper so it’s off being painted at the moment.
Whilst that was off the radiator was removed and a replacement sourced as it has started to leak a touch.,
One thing that I REALLY did not like was the fake alcantara covered trims, so a donor E90 gave up the brushed alloy ones. A much nicer place to be imo. Wood would have been better but are a bit more costly.
That’s it up to now, I’m still waiting on the radiator arriving and the bumper being painted before pressing it back into service

Very nice, beautiful colour too. Regarding the wood dash, is that real wood on the other E91's or just a vinyl covering? I'm quite unfamiliar with these.
Thank you, lemans blue. Im not sure what the wood is, I’ve only seen it on a car a few years ago and I liked it then DKIE92 said:
Lovely car. What the mileage and maintenance history like?
Thank you. It’s done 137k the history is pretty good but not complete, but given the cost of the car it’s something I can overlook martin mrt said:

I replied to the other...
All in, that looks to be a decent car smile
Is it sat on 403Ms? Didn't think the offsets would suit TBH; heavy wheels too!

Running a shed thread. I decided it’s too good for that I replied to the other...

Not sure what wheels are on it, F3x M Sport ones

I now see what you mean, no idea how I’ve managed that, I can’t seem to remove it either. I replied to the other...

That looks lovely in Le Mans Blue.
My daily is an E90 330i and it has "fine wood trim Poplar grain" which I believe is actual veneer. Photo below.
Like your car it is ULEZ compliant which is handy as my sister lives in a London Borough.
Thank you. I think the wood I’m remembering is slightly darker but my memory isn’t as good as it once was. My daily is an E90 330i and it has "fine wood trim Poplar grain" which I believe is actual veneer. Photo below.

ULEZ has been a pain, I run a couple of nice cars and usually a cheap old snot box for work/tip runs etc, I still do this but I have to be careful where I go in the old snotter now

I fitted walnut burr trim to my wife’s 330i which I thunk goes with the lemon leather nicely.ULEZ has been a pain, I run a couple of nice cars and usually a cheap old snot box for work/tip runs etc, I still do this but I have to be careful where I go in the old snotter now
It’s cheap too because most people don’t want it.
That looks grand OP but I’m a sucker for a Le Mans Blue E91.
Yours looks to have a decent spec too which is quite rare for a petrol car. I’m guessing it was possibly a BMW UK car of some sort looking at the reg.
Are you getting any codes with the over boost issue? Could be a fault boost solenoid which are easy to change, they’re made by Pierburg to save on dealer prices.
The left side paddle can be retired to work like modern paddles too, so downshifts will be a pull, not a push.

Your wife’s car has the same interior mine had new, as did my first E91 335 and I wish this one still had it not the black. I’m a sucker for a coloured leather interior. I think you may be right on the BMW registered part, my 2nd 335d was YG07 and it was registered new to BMW
Burr Walnut, that’s it, lovely.
It was coming up with these but since clearing them they have been ok. It only happens when it’s driven hard and I’ve not done that recently.
I knew about the paddles, I’ll get it running right, new rad fitted and the bumper back on then look at that mod
30FF (if I recall correctly) was the code I was having for a dud boost solenoid.
Under hard acceleration it would trigger a check engine light and limo mode but turn it off and on again and it was fine (until you accelerated hard again). I think I paid about £60 each for the solenoids that arrived with the BMW part number ground off. They’re at the front of the engine, on the left hand side as you look at it, partially obscured by the vacuum tanks.
The best thing I did re the paddles was to fit some M3 jobbies. Obviously only worth it if you actually use them.

ULEZ compliant, the last time I was in Aberdeen, it was by the sea; the wind was so strong, I swear I could see granite buildings eroding, I seriously doubt any emissions are hanging around.
However, it’s presented you with an excellent excuse to air your wallet, and make a purchase. What a fine purchase you’ve made, great colour, looks mean, without being OTT, don’t mind the wheels and who doesn’t like a fast estate.
Enjoy
