I’ve been a long-time lurker of Pistonheads so thought I’d open an account and introduce my new (to me) 440i. Replaces an E89 Z4 23i. I've been wanting an 440i coupe for a few years and having finally gotten on the property ladder last year, I decided I could finally justify one.

I've been fairly fussy waiting for the right spec to come up (the spec I originally wanted was Tanzanite Blue, White Leather, HUD and approved used) and I’d almost given up on the search but I noticed a local main dealer had just listed a low mileage 17 plate 440i in Individual Avus Blue.
I had never seen Avus Blue on a modern BMW, went to view and it looked great so I put a deposit down the same day – I think I prefer it to the tanzanite I was originally looking for (but I might be bias!). Its (apparently) only 1 of 3 in the UK - when the sun is out, it looks incredible!

It has the Individual Opal White Extended Leather Merino, Individual Piano Black Trim, Heads Up Display, Reversing Camera - the only thing I would have loved is the digital dish, but that was a want rather than a necessity smile

Have had the car for a month now, does everything I need it to do and more- Is incredibly comfortable and smooth for day to day driving but with bags of power for the times you want a more spirited drive - a perfect daily car for my needs!

No immediate plans for it, I may look to add the MPPSK kit at some point if any dealers are offering good deals down the line - but for now, it’s perfect!

That's lovely; gorgeous colour and that interior looks cool

I do like the F3X range (F31 owner myself) - a 340i or 440i GC would be a superb upgrade for me, when the prices come down a touch more

That's lovely mate, don't see many with the opal interior nevermind individual paint too...

The MPPSK is good but expensive for what it is, you could get a remap and an aftermarket exhaust for less - it'll make more power and it'll sound better.
I had an M140i years ago with a backbox mod. Was loud when you had the valve open but nice and quiet with it shut.

Looks superb, personally I find Tanzanite a bit flat in UK climate (no doubting it looks superb when the sun hits it). This colour looks like it will be more rewarding more of the time, and added exclusivity is a bonus! I've never seen that colour before.

Same interior as my F36, lovely isn't it. Smells amazing even after 105k on mine.

Great looking car, and very rare colour.

I sold my M140i more than 4 years ago, and I still miss that engine and gearbox.

Would only consider the MPPSK as it maintains the bmw approved warranty!

The B58 engine and Zf8 is a great combo! Very impressed so far

Yeah I’m definitely pleased I went for that avus rather than holding out for tanzanite. I think it was a colour offered on the e36 models.

The interior is great, the leather is lovely! Just need to keep on top of the maintenance of it!

Love these cars and that one's stunning. Avus Blue works wonderfully on it. I'm on a very long winded hunt for the right F32 440i too.

Yes, the 3.0 E36 M3 was available in Avus Blue. It changed to Estoril Blue when the 3.2 came out.

Definitely needs looking after. It's much nicer than the standard Dakota leather but will look scruffy more quickly if it isn't pampered. There's currently a Tanzanite one for sale with only 12k miles but the driver's seat looks a little grubby to my eye. Yours looks immaculate.

Great colour (I used to have an e36 in Avus many, many years ago)

Nice to see one with proper cow inside too!

Cheers,

Chris

If you have HUD, I think you’re better without the digital dash as it looks a bit naff in comparison with (for example) Audi’s virtual cockpit. I’ve always been a big fan of BMW analogue dials and I purposefully looked for one with those as long as I had HUD.

I have the same interior and regular cleaning with Dr Leather wipes followed by their dye block keeps it looking spot on. I wouldn’t let a kid or a dog near it though… wink Autoglym Fast Glass for the Piano Wood.

You have a very lovely car by the way - congratulations!

Me too - they're beautiful. I'd chose analogue over digital with or without HUD.

I like the analogue dials in my M4 too, but they definitely feel a bit old school versus the digital screens that I have in the Merc though I reckon.

I do like the digital ones that they did in these and the 640d etc though.

Before you spend the money on one make sure you hear a car with it, they are a lot louder than an M car so might not be to your taste or your neighbours on a cold start!

Definitely hear it first. I personally can't stand it. For me it's not so much how loud it is but more that has that awfully contrived sounding machine gun-like snapping on the overrun.
