My new VW transporter
Discussion
Got my lovely 24 plate VW transporter 3 weeks ago. It had 49 miles on it.
Today it just clocked 1500 miles. Amber EML has come on. Called VW assistance and they come out. Man says he's never seen this fault before. So let him investigate. I come back and he shows me pictures. Rodents have chewed through the wiring underneath. This isn't a single wire, this is loads of exposed wiring.
Van goes into VW tomorrow morning for maybe a new loom. It won't be under warranty so the cost is anyone's guess. Its a company vehicle which have agreed to settle.
My bad luck continues

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this will happen again. I had a transporter which had this issue multiple times & others I know that had them also had the same thing.
It’s what they coat the wires in. VW have known about this since the mk5 and done nothing.
If you google it there is a fix some specialists offer. It will cost a few £££ but worth it if you are keeping the van long term.

That’s a nightmare for you OP, and I hope you get it sorted with the minimum of hassle although if they replace the loom that is going to be very expensive.
My wife’s company owned a VW Caddy that was sat idle during covid, and it turned out rats had moved in and built accommodation above the gearbox and underneath the plenum cover. The damage they caused was pretty impressive and made it uneconomic to repair (they spent £800 with a garage who did a really bad attempt at repairing it), so I ended up with it and spent hours repairing the wiring and cleaning it out. It runs fine now but I was amazed at what they would happily chew through.

So it's been at a VW dealer for the day and to repair the loon the bill was £741.
However, once that was done, they then found another part that had been "eaten". This loom was behind the bulkhead. A new loom is on order from Germany as there is no stock in the UK at the moment. Company has settled the bill so I can drive the van, but it will need to go back in for the additional loom to be fitted.
