Er... I bought an old range rover without going to see it...its just been delivered.

Seems ok. Big oil leak from somewhere, otherwise very pleased.

I need to tow 3.5 tons, not often, just a few times a year and not far, this is MoT and tax exempt, as simple as a Defender, but more comfy and cheaper.

£4,350. Never bought so much trouble so cheap.

It is makes it to my ferry tonight and to home, about 10 miles, I'll be delighted.

I'm sure I'm totally missing the point, whoosh parrots etc... But why go for that over something like this for the same sort of cash?

Missing the point.

There's nothing to go wrong, its a V8, manual box and not much more.

No mot needed, free tax, £153 insurance for a year.

Loaded on to ferry home ok.

There's also potential for massive amounts of hidden rot.

I'd make the same choice as you every time. Absolutely loved the ones I have had but just have no use for them any more.

I think you’ve won the internet for today squire!

Please put some original headlights back in it though.

Very early 4 door. Rare now.

I presume it has been rattle-canned silver and that’s the original…Sandglow??…on the roof?

Please change the headlights!

So are you currently planning to do the bare minimum to keep it serviceable, or have you embraced the inevitable fact that you will be spending all your free time and effort fettling and cosseting it?

If the latter, what is planned?

Edd China did/is still doing a YouTube series restoring one. Skip the 58 episodes where he is using a laser cleaner and it's quite good.

Good luck!

It made it home...running on 7 cylinders, maybe 6, perhaps 5, 4 at times, defo not 8.

Absolutely delighted with it. Its very wobbly!

I've ordered all the stuff to completely overhaul the ignition and fit electronic ignition getting rid of points and condensor.

Once all that is done I'll take stock of how its running.

Then brakes need looking at as it dives to the right and I want to tow 3.5 tons.

The plan is to recreate this photo.

Its one of the first 20 pre production RR's, owned by the Wilks family, towing their Huntress, hull 97, my Huntress is hull 104, it'll be a 4dr, but same colour and wheels.

That’s a great bit of car buying.

I always pick the safe route these days as I’m getting boring in my old age so big thanks to people like you that I can live vicariously through via car forums. laugh

I look forward to seeing your adventures. thumbup
