OEM+ Honda Accord K24 Type S Tourer
Discussion
Picked my, seemingly rare, Accord up off a Neighbour last year and thought I'd document what I've been up to with it.
Its a 2 owners (Son and Father) car, with 72k on the clock and fully documented service history
Really well cared for, but not being used anymore as the owner gave up driving.
I got the knock at the door if I wanted to buy, so jumped at the chance and set about getting the car up to scratch and making some OEM+ improvements.
Having owned an S2000 and a modified K20 EP3 Civic in the past, I knew that car had potential.
Heres when I picked up the car last year.

Exterior clean and tidy, couple of bits on the rear bumper

As new interior

Engine Bay super clean
First thing was to use the car, see what cropped up and assess what needed doing. So I took the car to Shelsley Walsh and used it for work a few times...

Initial notes were that the tracking was out, brakes were terrible, suspension was tired and that the tyres were very old and perished.

First up was new tyres - Went with Avon Z7s and opted to have the wheels refurbed in the OEM colour @ Project Powdercoating.

Then over to A line in Dudley to have the tracked sorted - Luckily nothing was seized however it was confirmed that the suspension would do with a refresh...

Gave me a chance to have a good luck under the car for the biggest killer...rust.
Pleased to report that the underside is in very good condition for its age and will be cleaning and treating over the summer.
Brakes were then changed for Mtech C Hook Discs, Mtech pads and new fluid.
Suspension refresh included Bilstein Dampers with H&R 30mm springs along with droplinks.
During this whole time I had been in talks with, what I'll call, the UKS leading Accord Guru.
Patryk who runs Gaijinz Garage in North Wales is the go to guy for everything accord.
We put a plan together then he set about doing the following work:
Full Service - Every fluid inc spark plugs
Valve Clearance Check and Adjust
Stainless Exhaust System
4-2-1 Stainless Manifold (Custom Manufactured in Poland and shipped over)
Gaijinz Garage Custom 3d Printed air intake set up with heat shield and cone filter
Throttle Body Swapped for J35 TB
Genuine RRC inlet manifold (Think these are found on FD2 type R Civics)
Thermal Gaskets
Aftermarket Fuel Rail
Genuine Bottom Ball Joints (Front end was still knocking and therse are a very common failure point)
Live on road mapping of the car, bring the Vtec down from 6000rpm to 4500rpm, rev limit increased to just over 7000rpm and a 1:1 throttle ratio (cable like action)

Got the car back and was a huge transformation.
It picks up like it should, revs like a Honda should and also now sounds like it should (or shouldn't since you dont expect it)
Currently just enjoying the car, its slowly taking over daily duties however I've never found myself being so precious of such a "cheap" car before.
He even washed, cleaned and polished the headlights before the car left him.
Heres a few of how the car sits now....

Plans for now are to carry on using the car but also clean off and treat the underside, have the LCAs rebushed, rear bumper needs a few touch ups and potentially get the one arch replaced at the same time (might have to wait until next year)

Don’t see many of these around any more and in estate form they do look nice. Is this the 2.4? What sort of increase do you think you’ve got bhp?
Yes K24 - 2.4 Petrol Vtec.Powerwise, im hoping to get over to DynoDaze the coming weekend for a powerfun to see how its performing.
Standard power is around 180-190 I believe.
This takes me back....we had a Graphite Grey 2003 Type S Tourer for 4yrs/50k miles and despite already being 10 year old when we got it, it never put a foot wrong and on a leisurely motorway run would return 40mpg! Fantastic car for a young family at the time.
This was Honda's attempt to equal the E-class and 5 series and threw alot of money at it....the 'dynamic' engine isolation and general NVH design effort was impressive. I could never tell when the engine was idling or not - how I didn't kill the starter motor or flywheel ring I don't know....
Does the electric tailgate still work on yours? This was always a weak point. As were rear calipers seizing over time, but that was nothing unique to the accord....

I've been really impressed with the NVH levels (I must be getting old) especially as the exhaust hasn't added any reap notable noise inside, when around town that is.Does the electric tailgate still work on yours? Mpg wise, I've not checked yet, il work it out on the next fill up.
Real tailgate works. Sometimes the drivers window doesn't fancy going all the way up, and I need a 2nd key making up. Other than that it's faultless.
That's some fruity upgrades on that tourer.
Contemplating something similar but the back end is far too long (and not very good looking to my eyes without the spats - yous with the spats looks a lot better), but makes a great estate.
Yours actually looks pretty solid and with surprisingly low mileage. Most are well over 100k by now.
