Barn find 1976 Volkswagen Beetle
Discussion
OK, I'm cheating here. But I'd love to see someone buy this and document the restoration in Readers' Cars
An amazing opportunity to pick up a completely original car that has been family owned from new, and sat since 1992. What an experience that first wash will be!
Auction ends on Friday with no reserve https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/auction/16211320

Not quite a full restoration, but I have had this '66 for over 15 years now....not driven it for 3 years.

Could do with getting it out for a cobweb run this year...

That looks superb! We'll have a Readers' Cars area at the PistonHeads Annual Service at Bicester Heritage on 10 August, would be great to see it there.Readers thread here;

Urgh. These sorts of things are a nightmare.
Cheap to buy but resto will be horrifically expensive and you'll end up with a car that's worth a fraction of the investment...
Ask me how I know
At least by the looks of it you'll have an A35 at the end of it and not a Beetle..Cheap to buy but resto will be horrifically expensive and you'll end up with a car that's worth a fraction of the investment...

I agree. I like a nice beetle and van but I don't understand the hype. Especially around a pre '55 barndoor, why they're worth >£75k I just don't know. To me they look identical to any other splitty....
