I quite enjoy the threads that start with a journey to pick up the undisclosed new car!
So here I am, on the train from Norfolk to Tewksbury to collect a new-to-me car.

It's Japanese, 2 seater and I'm looking forward to having something other than the Dad wagon CRV to tool about in...

The very first guess.....

That's that game over then!

Years (probably 12) since I owned an NA, and a few since I had an MR2 roadster. I got the need for a cheap to run, fun thing and I've pumped for a 1.5ND.

Looking forward to it!

"The answer is MX-5" as always.

Sounds good, will be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Hi OP if you get this before collection take a look at the leading edge of the hood where it can rub the rollover hoops when down and wears through the leading edge. I know this because I’ve just had a new hood on my ND due to this. Mazda were helpful with the cost so well done to them. The issue doesn’t impact all cars but is very common.

Also check the AC. Again I know because mine failed and was fixed under warranty. Shame it failed in France during the hottest recent Summer.

Otherwise great cars. I’ve had an NA and now ND2.

Made it home all ok! Really pleased with it, I'll share some thoughts later.

I checked the AC before I left, that's fine. Not looked at the front edge of the roof though, will check though!

Hopefully the hood is okay. I had heard about it but did nothing as I hadn’t seen any wear and then wondered why my leading edge was worn one day during a wash. Mazda have known about the issue for years and there was a service bulletin. They were meant to have altered the build process but the brand new 5 in their showroom had the issue when my mine was being fixed.

Always open the roof from outside after undoing and check that the front edge of the roof is a good few mm from the back of the roll hoops. If there is a decent gap then either you’ve had the fix or the roof was always okay. Hit and miss. Some cars suffer and some don’t.
