So i asked in sept 2021 about z4's and then mmmmd n rrrrrrrd ever since. I wanted a Valencia orange but out of budget. Just before Christmas a Valencia orange pops up, I keep an eye, enquire and make an offer. A bit of back and forth and we settle on a price. Picked it up day after boxing day in atrocious weather and then had to go to Lincolnshire over the new year so not done so many miles as yet.
I was worried the orange would be to loud for me as I like subtle but its a stunning colour, its bright without being ostentatious. Was also nervous about the inside but its really nice. Ive seen the orange alcantara in black which I like but not disappointed. I didnt realise the VO package has sportier seats which are great not sure how a larger person would be comfy as they are quite hugging.
After an r56 mini I get nervous with bmw timing chains so thought if I got one ill get it done asap with the latest guides and have a little peace of mind so Tuesday its booked in for chain/guides an oil change and a set of spark plugs. Its expensive but I priced it in to the purchase cost. If anything else goes wrong atleast it wont take out the engine and I can enjoy driving the car without worry.
Other jobs are a wheel refirb which ill do around april and a major service around march.
Interior is pretty immaculate but the mats are a but nasty and will be replaced by a standard black set.
Strangely the car have some nice options but no heated seats or cruise control. No heated seats have been fine on alcantara so issue but I do like cruise control so will be retrofitting it at some point. Ill look into updating the sat nav to.
Other 2 possibilities are reverse camera and/or android auto install which is about £500. Thought the front would be worse but I cant see the boot lid at all so blind backwards.
I may get it remapped but not the full fat map. Id be happy with the 28i map copied over, 240bhp is enough especially here in wales. Ive said id get my last 4 cars mapped and never have so likely this will follow trend.
The c30 is staying for a while. Tbh the z4 does make the c30 feel old but its been great and it loves the miles. I have a few bushes to do but been the best car i've every owned. I'm also refurbing the house and need to get supplies back and forth so will keep it and the mrs likes it when she goes back and forth to Yorkshire
Will update tuesday

Having owned a mapped Z4 35i I do think they're much under-rated cars. A bit more poke does expose them as being a little nose-heavy but they aren't a total disaster, in fact they are quite old school and you can work with their characteristics. It might be a false impression caused by the atmospherics, but I always thought mine handled a little sweeter (and rattled less!) with the roof down.
I had a VO F21 and never had a bad word said about it (to my face!) so I likewise concur with your choice of colour. Mine was black but they definitely suit a brighter hue.
One suggestion I would make, is to remove the clutch delay valve on that manual box. It'll take 30 mins max and makes a noticeable difference to pedal feel.

That looks fantastic!
Valencia Orange is my favourite colour on the E89 Z4, and it's winning on a thread on z4forum (although the site is down just now).
Some owners prefer the handling of the 4 cylinder models for being a bit less nose-heavy than the 6 cylinder ones but I've never driven one - all my Z4s have been E86 Coupes.
By all accounts the 18i, 20i and 28i all have the same engine so the only difference is the mapping. Although 28i models were built with bigger front discs.
Keep enjoying it.

Ah, nice, I bought myself a white 35i with the DCT just before Christmas, and I'm enjoying it.
Note, if you would consider going to the 18" wheels rather than 19" ones, I bought a set of new genuine BMW 276s from here for under £500 to put my winter rubber on:

If you want cruise control, I think you can fit a used stalk and code it in easily enough, I saw a couple of things about it when I was doing my pre-purchase research before getting mine.

Not had a huge amount of time on the last few days with work but she's booked in with a local specialist. I had a Mini before and had to have the timing chain and guides changed and rather than play the waiting roulette game ill get it done now for some peace of mind, Figured a 1.2k bill now is better than a 6k bill later and I can sleep at night and drive without clenched bum cheeks. Its booked in 8am tomorrow for new chains and guides and other associated bits at a local specialist plus ill get an oil change and spark plugs done as its on 45k and likely due. Its not cheap but I actually priced it in when I bought the car. Also be a decent selling point when the time comes.
Also purchased a California scents vent air freshener. Get the tins the vent ones arnt as good . some detailing bits will be ordered this week. Ive not got time to detail but ill get it washed and ill wax it to protect for the next few months.
Another thing I noticed is rust coming through the centre of one of the allows. a quick google says its pretty common on bmw's and a cleanup of the hub and some copper grease sorts it so thats on the list this week or next.

If you're a preventative maintenance kind of person, I read that the salmon coloured relays for the roof system are known to go for a burton and take other stuff out with them sometimes, so I've ordered myself a pair of those to go in, seems like Sytners in Stevenage are pretty good for genuine parts mail order?

You also mentioned mats - mine has good genuine mats, but to keep them that way, I ordered some cheap rubber overmats from these people, and they were a decent fit with the correct profile, so I'd imagine their carpet ones would be also:

Car is Done and back with me. Bread and porridge for the next 6 months. Nearly £1300 . Its not actually so bad as i just need to add it to my purchase price. I wouldn't have bought one without having the chain done asap. B&R in Cardiff were great they checked over other bits and updated the service info. I only need a part inspection done now in april. The guides were part worn but were all in tact so no chasing bits of plastic around the sump.
They commented how mechanically and cosmetically good it is which is always nice to hear from a specialist that I haven't bought a lemon.
Car drove lovely after, I can now drive without fear. I have a slight rattle from the rear. I think its a plastic panel behind the headrest so ill check that out tomorrow. its deffo an interior component and not suspension.
Yep Virtually every car i checked the MOT history of mentioned cracked wheels. I think mine has a note 4 or 5 years ago. I am tempted with CSL reps if i have to change but only an idea. which ones are the 5 series wheels.
Frosty morning photo at B&R for no reason

I loved my Z4.
A remap will see it to 265bhp with no issues, all within tolerance.
Beware, although the best looking wheels by far, those 19inch alloys are very weak - and expensive to replace,
Many owners go to BMW 18inch, as found on 5 series (I think)
Enjoy!
260 seems to be about right, I am trying to see if i can get a 28i map moved over to keep it oem but may not be possible.A remap will see it to 265bhp with no issues, all within tolerance.

I think the 19s don't tend to be quite as bad if you fit non-runflat tyres. Edited by bazza white on Wednesday 17th January 18:51
Most CSL Reps seem to have offsets suited more for the E85/86s - but so many people fit them I took them off my current Z4 and went back to OE to be different!
18s were fitted to E89s. I bought a set of 295 wheels for my second E86 that came off a 35is as the owner had fitted 19s.

Haha, we're running in parallel here, I took mine for a going over at a local specialist last Friday with a similar logic - like you, no major issues, the plastic link that actuates my rear ride heigh sensor has snapped, so I'll replace that, and the bushes have gone in the anti-resonance weights that attach to the rear suspension. They don't really matter as such, so I'll have a think about whether I want to fix them "properly" or just remove them.bazza white said:

Mmm, mine had two cracked rears on its last MOT, which combined with the eyewatering cost of the genuine ones is likely why it had aftermarket 19s fitted when I bought it. They weren't quite the same offset as the standard ones (the Z4s are a little odd in comparison to other BMs - ET29 front, ET40 rear, these wheels were splitting the difference with ET35 both ends), but it drove fine on them so I'm not concerned.'re mats, I may have a brand new carpet set as well as the oem tailored rubber over ones. I'll see if I can find them. The carpet ones are from a 35is, so have that embroidered on them. They came out of the car on day one. They are oem, not eBay ones .
Where are you in the country? I travel a lot, so might be able to drop them to you. PM me?

Here you go. Used for delivery of the car, then replaced by rubber ones. £30 plus £10 to post if they're any use to you. No problem either way pm me if interested.
Cheers for the offer and digging the out. I was hoping it would be embraided. If id bought yours id replace them at some point so may as well buy the ones I want long term. Again many thanks for the offer and digging them out.Been a crappy few days so still not had chance to just go for a decent drive. Been on a few lidl trips and work though, fuel economy not its best feature. One thing as I get used to the car I notice the clutch delay valve starting to annoy. I didn't think it was an issue but as i get used to the car I'm noticing more. been looking at removing it which ill do when I can.
New keyring. actually got 3 for £7. Probably wont last but cant grumble for the money. A loose fob i was worried about losing and wasn't right on the volvo key fob.
Bought some products to protect the paint. I cant do a full detail just yet but on research this should get me through a few months once on. I wanted to get it done today but wasn't to be.
