1994 Audi 100 2.6E SE Estate
Discussion
Evening all. We recently sold our much loved Mk1 Octavia vRS estate that we had owned for over 5 years and an E91 330i Touring, which I had half intended to replace it with but barely lasted 5 months, as when compared to my E39, the E91 just wasn't doing it for me.
I fully intended to make do with fewer cars, but when this popped up on Facebook Marketplace, advertised as being owned by the same person for the last 25 years, I had to have a look. A viewing was swiftly booked, and on arrival, I was greeted by a well-optioned, well-maintained and well-looked-after car that had served its second owner very well, who took the car from 20k miles in 1998 to 207k miles in 2023.
I've owned some cars with a good history before (including four Audi 80's), but this one eclipses them all. The service book has 34 recorded services from Audi and two local specialists (where an employee left and set up their own business). The car has had multiple cambelt and auto-gearbox fluid changes and religious brake fluid changes every two years.
These are "rare" cars these days, but I was sucked in by the "Sport" seats in blue velour, wood trim, climate control and fog lights. Some of these are options, and some come with the "SE" spec.
Anyway, on to some photos (as bought, pre-wash etc!)...

This week I am having four Vredestein Quatrac 6 All-Season tyres fitted and a wheel alignment carried out as the current tyres are dated 2009 and 2014, so this is slightly overdue.
The car drives very well and is smooth, quiet and refined. I'm hoping the tyres will improve the low-speed ride as it does live up to its period Autocar review in this regard, but it is by no means rough.
I should be in the car at Thruxton this weekend if anyone would like to see it!

As far as I'm concerned, it's been all downhill for Audi since the 100/A6. Fantastic cars. I ran a 2.8 quattro saloon and then a 100 S4 avant for a few years in the mid 2000s. Yours is one of the very last 100s, with the later A6 style mirrors.
12v.org always used to be the go-to resource for these.

That looks great, the interior in particular has worn the miles exceptionally well.
This era of Audi is right up there for me. My mum had an 80 which I loved, can even still remember the reg was L510FTM.
The first time I opened/closed the door I was properly shocked at how heavy the door was in comparison to her MK4 XR3i (registration: G55 RVS
) that she traded in for the Audi.
If I could find a clean B4 80 then I’d be tempted to buy it as a usable retro.

And that, boys and girls, hits the nail straight on the head. Once upon a time, Audi made cars that were utterly solid and dependable and appealed to well-heeled well-to-do types who had no desire for anything 'flash'. Indeed they ran hard away from anything at all showy. Then Audi changed their marketing and it all went downhill to the ugly mess it is now. That car is lovely OP. Utterly beautiful. I'm in for the updates!
Really like these - the interior on yours looks great.
Slight side note - I was amazed to see an original S4 saloon on the road the other day - I'm not sure I've ever seen one!
One thing I've always wondered - the little black circles towards the top of the window glass - what are they for? Do they restrict window movement?

The black dots on the windows are part of the window runner system as they are flush - goes through the glass to a "pin" behind - slide the windows down and you will see. This is before modern adhesives that are used these days and was part of Audi's Cd focus back then.Slight side note - I was amazed to see an original S4 saloon on the road the other day - I'm not sure I've ever seen one!

I had a 100 saloon 2.0 - very smooth and comfortable, and surprisingly spritely give the size and engine

See I can't see any difference with the mirrors, apart from the fact they are colour coded? I've seen12v.org which looks good for the engine. I've found a couple of (quiet!) groups on facebook too which have already helped me read the coolant temp from the climate, as the gauge is reading low.12v.org always used to be the go-to resource for these.

I had an 80 last year, it was only £800 and I cleaned it up and sold it for over double that. It had 130k miles on it but it was a cool car, pretty clean and a fairly unusual "SE Sport" model. They are out there!

Thanks, I'm hoping there are not too many bad ones!PositronicRay said:
Cracking car OP, climate control too an expensive option back in the day.
I don't recall any problems with ride but tyre noise was higher than expected.,
Wind, road and tyre noise seems pretty good to be honest!I don't recall any problems with ride but tyre noise was higher than expected.,

With no airbag, is the the era of Procon=Ten?
Yep, the very last I think. I understand airbags were optional and then took over as being factory fit when it went to being the A6 (the first "A" car maybe?).Thanks to everyone else too!
Many years ago I had a pearlescent white 2.8 Quattro version of this and of a similar vintage. Such a comfortable and practical car, and as others have commented, understated and extremely well built. For some reason that I don’t understand now, I sold it because I was worried that at 106k miles, that it would start falling to bits.
In retrospect, it would most likely have easily doubled that mileage in its stride
I will follow this thread with interest.
