My first Porsche, 997.1 C4S
Discussion
As the topic title suggests this is my first foray into Porsche ownership.
I promised myself some 20+ years ago I’d get myself a 911 for my 40th, sadly things didn’t quite work out and I’ve managed to achieve the goal before turning 42. Some might say it’s a planned midlife crisis
Anyway around 6 weeks ago this 997.1 C4S Manual popped up on a Dealers social media page that I follow and despite black being far from my first colour choice the provenance, miles, history, Aerokit and Hartech rebuild sold it to me. I actually think it suits the black too if I’m honest.
Mrs MRT and I collected it on Saturday morning, drove to a hotel in Broughty Ferry for the evening as we had a function to attend then headed home to Aberdeen on the Sunday morning
As we arrived at the dealers
Is any PH readers cars thread complete without the post collection fuel stop pictorial?
Couple of snaps in the hotel parking
Some of the interior, this is a marmite choice, but refreshing change from boring black and greys
Initial impressions are very positive. It’s completely different to anything else I have owned, it’s nowhere near as quick is a straight line as my old S204 C63 from the bum dyno but it’s fast enough and the involvement is far superior.
Early days indeed, waking up yesterday morning and seeing it on my drive was a surreal feeling, and going out to work this morning seeing it there again felt awesome. These are feelings no other car I’ve owned, and there’s ALOT of them, has given me.

Lazy Sunday morning perusing the forum whilst MrsMRT makes breakfast, I thought I’d update the thread.
When test driving the car I felt the engine mounts were past their best, I expressed this with the dealer but I was being particularly fussy. The rear wiper was also a bond of contention as I have always thought they ruin the lines of any 911.
Design 911 came up with the goods, initially I intended ordering the wiper delete, but RSS mounts found their way into the basket. These allowed free shipping. Man maths at its best £475 to save £10 shipping costs
997 rear wiper
Delete kit fitted. In an ideal world I’d fit a replacement screen and trim panel but the inherent costs are prohibitive unfortunately.
I then ran the car for a couple of weeks as it was, but the mounts were beginning to irritate. Poor gear selection, tailpipe sagging and the rear end felt uneasy. Mounting hardware came from OPC as the originals were quite crusty. £60 for 4 bolts and 2nuts. Ouch.
A few hours were set aside to do the job but reality was I had it done in under 45minutes. Very straightforward. Massive improvement in gearchange, car feels tighter and the exhausts sit where they should
I fitted some 7 & 15mm spacers, but never took any before/after pics. These were bought for a couple of reasons
1, I felt the rear wheels were a bit lost in the arches
2, The OE bolts were showing their age
3, Spacers came with new bolts so solves both problems 1 & 2
Last weekend Mrs MRT, myself, my son Aaron, my friend Mark and his son Alfie attended a local show with our cars.
Mrs MRT parked next to the 911 in her R32, Alfie in his Mk4 GT TDI 150 (a car I’ve owned 3 times ) Aaron in his Mk3 CL (he’s doing well for being 12 yo) Mark in his Mk2 G60 and my daily Caddy van
It was a great day out. Nice selection of cars, weather held up brilliantly and it was good to catch up with folks I’d not seen in a while inc a couple of PHers.
The 911 got some varying attention and the interior was certainly a talking point, it definitely divided opinion.
“Boaby the barman” from Still Game was a guest appearance, Aaron was delighted to meet him
That’s it up to now. The lack of Bluetooth will be addressed with a Mr12v kit I have sitting waiting to be fitted. I know the exhausts are not in great condition and they are lacking in the volume dept so I think that will be addressed in time.
Standard Friday night was for the car and Van pic. Aerokit looks perfect IMO
