So I finally got my zed. After years and years of lusting after one, I travelled down to Canterbury on Saturday. Had an amazing 5 hour drive back up here in the North.
It's my perfect car, after having a good look over it I basically snatched it off the guy! Under 30k miles, 2014, 28i, black exterior and interior, idrive etc. It's mint. Basically brand new despite being 9 years old.
It's the exact zed I wanted and after scouring autotrader for a while I finally found the perfect one.
Cheers to the guys on here for all of your help with my previous posts.
Now I just can't decide whether to go down the traditional route and get it serviced at the dealership with an Allianz warranty or to get it serviced by a specialist and risk the warranty.
I live fairly close to the Zed Shed. From what I've been reading they seem to be one of the best, if not the best Z4 specialists in the country. Be happy to hear your thoughts again anyway. Cheers.
Lovely car and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed mine. Owned for just over 6 years now, it's only the 20i Msport but it has been remapped to 289bhp 414nm so it does go very well. As you have basically the same engine yours should respond well to a map if that's a route you choose to take? Either way happy mototring.
Here's mine.

Here's mine.

There's the timing chain issues on the N20 engine which I have. Some stuff about the high pressure fuel pump and roof/sensors motors too (known as the bong of death on z4 forums).
As user above said, BMW warranty! Check how much it costs on whichever car you look at as the cost varies wildly depending on age and mileage.

35is is a great thing. but...
If you find one, cracking wheels, rattly turbos and weeping shocks are things to check.
bmw warranty!
Yep, agree with the cracking wheel issue, I bought a 3.5is, and had to have a wheel welded. If you find one, cracking wheels, rattly turbos and weeping shocks are things to check.

It went really well, especially after a remap to around 360hp. My main issue however was with the folding hardtop, it kept blowing microswitches, leaving the roof up or down, and in one case, halfway
I used Z shed - nice enough guy, but a pain to get hold of once the problem got a hold, in the end it went into a BMW garage, who realigned it. By that time I had completely lost trust in the car and sold it on.

Does anyone here with a zed know if these are supposed to have plastic caps on them? Just behind the door handles? if so do you know where I can buy replacements? just a mild annoyance.

That's a good looking Z4 OP.
I had the rear brake lines replaced and a new key cut and coded for my Z4 Coupe (E86) by Mike at Zed Shed and was very happy with his work and the very reasonable price. The only issue is he seems to sometimes have too much work to keep on top of.
I've been using a couple of ex-Sytner specialists for all my BMWs for about 8 years as they probably know the older models better than current BMW dealer technicians and are way cheaper. What I've saved doing that and not buying a warranty more than covers any occasional surprises - most of which would probably not be covered by a warranty anyway!
