After taking my Fiesta off the road I moved it into a shared unit & 4 other residents had Ford Pumas

I held out for a few months until I was shown a car local ish to me, 68k very tidy body work but listed as spares or repairs as its water pump didnt pump & the exhaust had fallen off

Rounded up I won it for £160, I dont know why but I never kept any pictures of it when I picked it up (it didnt come with the speedlines)

I didnt fancy the 15mile drive home with a busted water pump not colling things down so I got a mate to drive my daily & tow the Puma home on a tow bar but disaster struck

Taking a bend that was sharper than it looked & with me having no power steering I understeered out wide, snapped the towing eye & ended up rear ending my own car in my caragain no pics (til later) but once back, a chains around a steel beam & a few push backs straightened the front slam panel enough for it it all to be straight ish so I set about ruining it some more.

First up was the fixing the main issues, I had a brand new genuine water pump that was destined for my Fiesta so that was fitted, the Fiesta also had a full Milltek exhaust so that was swapped, £30 on fluids & gaskets the car was up and running

The cat was weighed in & the interior stripped & bits sold at this point it owed me £100

Had a year of fun including a few track days out of a £174 example a few years ago. Been a while since I’ve seen one for anything like that money though.

They are great fun to drive.

Not much happened til one of the chaps in the unit was working on a nice Series 1 RS turbo, ig reminded me of some old Escort & Sierras with a tiger stripe kit on

So I got me that

Took it round Silverstone

The front end whilst being straight enough to pass keep headlights level I was never really happy with it so I set abou sorting it so took the front wnd off

i cut out most of the crash bar

Drilled out the spot welds & took the rest off

I decided to make the front end removeable so every spot weld was replaced with a bolt

Whilst it was there I decided to add a Fiesta ST150 front brake set up (280mm discs Vs 240mm standard), some AP coilovers and a number 6 on the doors

All zipped back up & a fresh MOT put on

Not much happened it was always a second car so did not much

I fetted a set of bucket seats & harnesses

Then just enjoyed it for what it was

Thats pretty much where we are as of now, unfortunately the cost of living crisis started to hit home & with this doing only 800 odd miles between MOTs and at nearly £1 a mile over the course of the year to insure & tax this was the first thing to cut costs so I sorned it

But fear not, work progressed slowly, I have a spare engine so I’m starting to build up with high lift cams, larger inlet, upgraded bottom end bolts & a baffled sump

The window reg had also decided it didmtnt want to regulate so took one off a scrap door we had lying around

Last thing to do was start it up after a year of not moving

Jump pack on, fuel pump primed, it started first turn of the key…..then died, no more fuel pump priming & a blown fuel pump fuse, its FUBAR

So there we are, fuel pumps on order, next up for the new engine will be cambelt kit, clutch & maybe a lick of paint

See you soon (ish)

Good luck with the fuel pump. These drive a lot better than 99% of the cars on the road (especially with the Yamaha motor), so pretty good going for £160 biggrin

Can’t believe I hadnt touched this for well over a year!

I sorned the car during the cost of living as spending more pounds than driving actual miles didnt make sense.

Whilst in storage the fuel pump siezed so that was sorted, what a faff of a job

I have a snap off steering wheel but had always encountered issues with the horn not working & blowing the fuse which also ran the hazards so a plan was hatched to run a horn off the wheel

Works a charm & I can now show my displeasure at other people driving standards, not really, I live in Birmingham

Then it sprang a fuel leak, the pipe from tank to fuel filter had split, I lost 1/4 of a tank, that was sorted

No pictures but the headlights needed a polish & a new exhaust gasket was fitted as it was blowing its nuts off, a small hole on a manifold flange was welded with pidgeon pooh welding but after 2 and a bit years of storage a new MOT was issued & it’s back home.

A thorough clean to get rid of all the open storage dirt & grime

The Speedlines re fitted & it’s now a 2ft car!

Now to put some miles on it & it should be at the PH meet next week.

Immediate future plans; strip, clean & paint the interior
Then longer plans; get the rear arches welded & painted, redo the stripes then finish the other engine, fit it & map it

Great budget fun. Well done! Looks so much better a little lower on the new shocks. Good luck with the new engine, sounds like a fun project.
