Megane 250 Cup LY
Discussion
So I wasn’t going to but here I am starting a thread after reading a thread about a Renaultsport Clio.
Some boring backstory first….. After having multiple hot hatches - mainly Renaults with a sprinkling of 205s in there I bought more “reliable” and sensible family cars…..
Then bought a DS3 Sport - possibly the most unreliable car I’ve ever had the displeasure to own.
Whilst ruining my finances it also put me off cars in general, so I had various Kia estates, a focus, a civic (I know, I’ve had lots of cars!)
Anyways, I then went out in a Golf R and the fire reignited (too dramatic?)
I then set about looking at mk3 Megane RS’s. After telling myself to be sensible and just get an idea of the market I immediately found myself making an offer on a LY 250 that I couldn’t really afford. Car was also 250 miles away….
So after agreeing to buy the car ?? I set about the mission of going to pick it up. Handily it was the Sunday of the FA cup final so getting off at Kings Cross was…. Different.
So anyway I arrived on foot with my phone just about to die, and there she was BRIGHT Liquid Yellow and sounding amazing (way way too loud)
1 month later and I’m still in love with this thing. It’s been breathed on a bit, dyno printout shows 313bhp. And it’s an animal! In the dry the way she puts the power down is unreal.
I could (and probably will) rave on about her for hours and hours but I’ll just stick a few pics up for now.
Any questions are welcome, love talking about these cars.

My brother has one of these in red, Cup spec with Recaros etc. It's a great car, feels quicker than 250 bhp and surprises a few faster cars on track. The LSD on the Cup cars is v tight and they are pretty solid sprung so they feel quite racey to drive.
Yours looks really nice in yellow. What spec interior?

Thanks, yeah it’s a cup. No options, xenon’s etc.
ideal for a daily family car!
Interested to know how you get on with using it as a family car? Do you have child seats and if so, how is the access etc?ideal for a daily family car!
Also interested to know what engine / exhaust mods have been done to get to the 313bhp?

Main issues as a daily family are:
It’s too stiffly sprung - on H&R springs for the time being…
Exhaust is way too loud/boomy. Both silencers have been cut out so currently exploring options there.
Fuel economy -

Doesn’t seem too bad does it? Bear in mind this was for 25 miles on the a1 directly behind a wagon at 56mph!

It has a child seat in the back. Admittedly it’s more of a hassle than having 4/5 doors but barely takes more time. Space wise it’s surprisingly big in the back, daughter has plenty of legroom as does gf in passenger seat with baby seat behind. No spare wheel in the boot so there’s extra room for storage there!

Not sure that the economy will remain at that level - Cadwell Park last year produced this....Main issues as a daily family are:

Yeah, they rattle your dentures with coilovers on some roads but I don't mind it...It's there for a purpose. Wouldn't entertain one as a family car though Just read your thread, some drool worthy parts on yours!

Is your suspension standard?
You could move to 17's which would help a bit. Aside from that, it is what it is.

Agreed, I’m not expecting a soft ride but it’s too much for these roads.

Spec wise it’s cup dampers with H&R springs. 30mm spacers. All other suspension parts are OEM and have all been renewed in the past 3 yrs. PS4s all round though admittedly the fronts need changing which isn’t helping.
Brakes have also all been rebuilt in oast 2 yrs, Godspeed G hook discs with PFC Z pads.
Engine wise, mapped at engine dynamics, RS tuning decat with both silencers chopped, IC, unknown induction kit, KTR boost hose
Weighing up whether to get some new tyres and the geo setup and see how she feels OR do the above and get some Eibachs on at the same time. Exhaust wise I’m thinking i might get a rear silencer made - I don’t want to get rid of alllll the noise haha
