Civic Type R FN2 & Fiesta ST MK8 PE Track Cars
Discussion
Going on from my other build with my Megane 250 Cup https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... i had the great idea that what i really needed in my life was another track car to waste my money and time on
I know the general rule is that the EP3 is better but i have had two of them ( in Nighthawk Black ) in the past and loved them but i have always wanted an FN2 so set out to find one again in Black that had been looked after and well cared for that i could then turn in to a track car ( track car that is still ok on the road so club sport spec ) to run alongside the Megane .
I found one at the price and condition i wanted and last week picked it up so i am now the owner of a FN2 .
The car is a 2007 GT spec with 2 owners from new ( last owner had it for 8 years ) and has a ton of service history , body work is in good condition with the normal amount of stone chips and a few small car park dents and the interior is in ok condition but could do with a clean and tidy up .
A few pick of how the car is now .
Plans are to upgrade the suspension , brakes , very light engine tune , some weight saving and install a roll cage and bucket seat and harness and any other bits and bobs that need doing / upgrading .
Looking forward to getting it on track and having fun with it .
Even tho it will be much slower than the Megane i but it wont brake as much

Great choice, bought a virtually identical one for similar reasons last year. After driving it for about a hundred miles I put a new set of tyres on, gave it a service and drove it straight to the Nurburgring where it performed excellently other than showing up some not ideal brakes. I think its a cracking car for the price to be honest, have since rewarded it with a Tegiwa air box that gets the air from scoops where the fogs would go and a few other bits. Like you will probably give a map but not much else as they're not really power houses to begin. Enjoy!

Looking forward to getting it done up and then taking it on track .I will have a look at the Tegiwa air box but also have a few ideas for the induction side .

2 track cars why the hell not lol
It'll be good to see this as hanker a FN2 after I had the EP3 and loved it. Brother had the FN2 and thought it was great.
Yes cant wait to give this a go on track along with the Megane .It'll be good to see this as hanker a FN2 after I had the EP3 and loved it. Brother had the FN2 and thought it was great.
Just need to get both cars sorted then i will book a few track days with them .

Following with interest. Still impressed with what you did with my MR2!
An FN2 is hopefully next on my list
I did love that MR2 building it up and had some great times in it . What an amazing little car and it is still going strong up north i believe .An FN2 is hopefully next on my list
I will be taking the same approach with the FN2 so should be a lot of fun and i will keep this thread updated with the progress .
I recommend this, if you’re going on track.

Looks decent! The standard seats are pretty heavy so buckets is a good shout.

Did have a look at baffled sumps but they all need the oil pump gear conversion done so will need to have a think about this .https://motion-motorsport.co.uk/product/clockwise-...

Reading up about putting the cars on track the baffled sump is recommended if going LSD and semi slick / slick tyres and if on road tyres then overfilling the oil by 200 - 300 ML is advised .
With regards to the seats I will look to do the same as the Megane and have a bolt in bolt out drivers bucket seat for track days .

Looking forward to seeing how this goes. I'm always impressed with the extra power available on these engines with bolt on mods and a re-map.
TBH i will only be doing very basic breathing upgrades ( exhaust and induction ) and then a remap or flash pro but should still be around 215 - 220 BHP so like you say impressive for an N/A engine .With 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and RRC inlet manifold with the above they make around 230 - 240 BHP .

Wish it was that easy to get more power from my clio! With 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and RRC inlet manifold with the above they make around 230 - 240 BHP .
So to start off the upgrades to the car i managed to order a used but in very good condition Milltek exhaust system .
Milltek exhaust system .
Removing the old OEM system was simple and came away nice and easy .
Old OEM system .
The install of the Milltek system was again nice and easy with out any problems .
Milltek exhaust system installed .
The Millkek system only has one rear back box silencer but is not too loud and should be a bit more free flowing as the stock OEM unit is a 2.25 inch and the Milltek is 2.5 inch with less restrictions .
I also took a reading of the weight of the two exhausts and the stock OEM is 17.6 Kg and the Milltek is 12.3 Kg so that is 5.3 Kg removed from the car so far .

Have you had any initial thoughts about the FN2 when comparing it to your past cars? Any positives/negatives or observations?
TBH i have only driven it once so far but it went very well and felt much like my old EP3 CTR that i have had .The ride is no where near as bad as people make out and it seem just like i thought it would be .
It will be much slower than my Megane 250 but is a nice change from forced induction .
There are some areas that are lacking esp the induction noise but i will address that soon .
Overall im very happy with it and looking forward to getting stuck in building it up and then getting it on track .
Another new part arrived for the car in the shape of replacement lightweight battery .
I have ordered an Odyssey PC680 that was at a good price .
I did look at the Lithium options but i am running a Deadweight Industries Touge 500 in my Megane 250 and as lovely as it is it is rather on the expensive side so the Odyssey PC680 will do .
Removing the old Yuasa unit was simple .
Stock battery vs Odyssey PC680 .
The stock Yuasa battery has a weight of 16.2 Kg .
The Odyssey PC680 has a weight of 6.5 Kg .
That is a nice 9.7 Kg removed from the car .
Then all installed .
I had to make a new tray for the Odyssey PC680 to sit in as it is shorter than the stock battery and would not clamp down .
I ran this battery on my old MR2 MK3 track car and never had any problems with starting so this should be fine but the only thing to keep in mind is that it will need charging more often ( one / two weeks is the max i think before it will need charging ) but this should not be too much of a hard ship .
