Recently picked up a 2011 JK Jeep as a fun project.

This is a 3.8 V6 Sahara model, so the older sluggish engine with a mighty 200hp (they introduced a much healthier 3.6 the year after). It’s mated to a silky smooth 4 speed auto , so as you can expect it’s slow….very slow.

However none of this matters, it’s got a lot of charm and character, and the kids love it.

Fundamentally it’s a really good car. Single lady owner, FSH and 90,000km on the clock. The interior and exterior is spotless and it is (well was) standard.

I’ve introduced a few modest tweaks but the aim is to not go too OTT.

So far I’ve added / changed the following.

Discs & pads all round

Replaced faulty windscreen washer pump

Upgraded the stereo to an apple car play based unit and added some better speakers

Added modern LED headlights

Windows tinted (50%)

Allen over tyre bike rack

Upgrade bonnet catches

Added a brand new set Rubicon 392 bead lock alloys and BFGoodridge Baja Champion tyres (285/70 R17).

After the above I quickly added some AOR 1.5 spacers to stop tyre rubbing

Added a Rubicon front bumper (earlier plastic bumper shown in some pictures).

Next plans are to add a slight lift kit (or at least a level kit) and more importantly have some fun in the desert. I’m also on the hunt for a roof jack system which will ease the pain of removing, storing and refitting the roof.

Never had anything like this before but totally get the appeal. Cool little things!

Some snaps along the way (including a ride on jeep for my youngest who is now obsessed!)
