Morning all.

I recently managed to acquire this from a buddy that owns a car sale. He took it in part x and was unable to sell it back on due to a few issues plus it needed front wings.

A few beer tokens were passed over and i took ownership.

i brought it home and changed the oil as i do with all my cars.

Its a 2004 Ibiza FR PD130, being the PD130 it has the 6 speed box so is a great mile muncher.

Got an MOT on it and put it straight to work and put 2000 miles on it within the first month.

After the first month it picked it up a small misfire, changed the injector loom for £18 as they are common on these. However this didnt fix the issue. It felt like fuel starvation so i also changed the fuel filter and BOOM she was working. Start simple kids, i should have started there.

It also lacked on the braking ability. however i had a spare set of 312mm brakes off a TT here that i broke that are a straight swap over the 280mm ones the car came with.

Driveability she has enough poke but will need a remap soon as a PD with a remap is a great driver and i can feel the power lacking. in addition to this its a slightly harsh drive compared to my other MK4's.

We are planning a roadtrip to Croatia next year, so providing it stays in my ownership that long it could be the ideal car to take.

We do document our road trips if anyone is keen and our latest trip should be online in the next 2 weeks - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4tcP8cjpcz3nx0PL...

Thanks for reading all

I had one of these from 2009-2012 whilst at university, regularly travelling from Sussex up to Yorkshire. Absolutely great for cheap motorway miles.

Mine was remapped, an upgrade well worth doing. I agree the ride is unnecessarily hard for a warm hatchback and it needed more stopping power. The real thing that bugged me on it was the quality of the dash, it was so hard and plastic. Nonetheless, I look over my time very fondly with that car, it would go like s* off a shovel.

Enjoy and look after it, those engines go on and on - well done for keeping it alive.

My last PD130 MK4 golf was remapped and i still had the unlocked ECU here, however they are configured slightly differently and although it went well with it on it wasnt right. So ill be getting it done right over winter.

The 312's helped but needs better pads as i only had the ones i had lying around

I love VW's of this era hence owing 5 currently rotate

That's 600 miles this week so far..

She averaged around 54 mpg over those miles and considering they were "fun roads" for a good amount I'm happy with that.

It'll get an oil change this weekend as I try and change the oil every 1-2000 miles

Also I think I'll need to either sort these wings soon or invest in more duct tape

I'm very fond of these, i got a facelift FR when i was 19 (some 14 years ago, sigh) and i had a 55 mile commute a day. I lowered it on coilovers, some nice bbs wheels and mapped it and it was great for what i needed at the time! A couple years later i had a Golf r32 and my commute went up to 96 miles a day and someone offered me another pd130 FR as a PX, so i've had two. This one had a seatsport front mount, full milltek turboback exhaust etc and was even quicker, not quite as good on fuel though!

Both had miles piled on with 0 issues so fingers crossed it does you well!

Thanks Scottos,

This is my 3rd PD130, my last one MK4 golf had 280k on the clock and was driven hard but just kept putting in work. The heater core went and if anyone knows they are a pig of a job. Covid hit so i broke it for parts. Wasnt doing any mileage so bought some 1.8t's. As my mileage is going back up i got this for free so couldnt say no..

R32's are strong money these days beer

This will be getting a map and exhaust soon as they are very restrictive on these, plus parts are cheap to come by
