Little thread on my new 208 gti BPS. It won't be anywhere near as detailed as my last couple of builds. But I still think this might be a interesting one

My turbo 205 which I didn't mean to sell, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Kwasi Kwartango, so named as I picked the 208 up the week the mini budget added £400 a month to my mortgage! And is bright orange.

picture post test drive.

I'm not really into new cars, I find them to be very sterile, with really over assisted vague controls. While some of that is true of the little bps, it is all over assisted. Everything has feel, and the grip on offer from the LSD is incredible.
It's also one of the more tail happy cars I've ever driven. I was not expecting the amount of lift off oversteer in of offer. However it's totally manageable, it's a really nice tool to tighten you're line slightly. And use the diff to drag it out.

Not only was I not intending to do a thread on it, I've changed my phone so I'm really light on photos. Apologies.

I got a really good deal on the car as it was stock at one of my customers dealerships. It did have a slight knock in the front suspension. Which turned out to be several things.

I replaced The topmounts, front struts and ball joints. All with Peugeot parts. And it's almost cured. It turns out the control arms are bps specific and have a spherical bearing Instead of a front bush. There are £180 from peugeot. But I've found out that skf make the arms and bearings, so I have them on order. There half price so Worth the wait.

Common failure is the torque mount do replaced it as it seemed abit soft and put the polybush insert in it.

My car has already had a pug 1 off short shifter , intercooler and sports cat fitted. Along with a gfb recirculation valve. And a remap to 238bhp. Which saves me a few jobs.

Roll on to this weekend, my buddies have been hounding me to join them on track in the 205. But I was never happy with the head management to do a track day with them. This time I had zero excuses, some I'm booked onto a day at brands tomorrow. I think I've got a dc2 track car a modified dc5 and a caterham to keep up with.

Fitted new discs and for carbon Lorraine rc5+ pads. The old discs were pretty ropey and the pads were only half worn, but of unknown origin, so chances of them lasting on track was minimal.

I've also replaced the brake fluid with motul 660, serviced her and changed the gearbox oil.

I just need to bed the pads in on the way to brands in the morning.

The most stressful part of track day prep, was letting this 6year old wirlwind help me was it.

Hopefully all going well, this thread will be more about doing things in it rather than on it.

Best Laid plans and all.

As a hot hatch fan I've always liked the look of these. Really interested to see how you get on.

What a day, the car was incredible all day. For what is essentially an out the box setup yes it has a smidge more power and some decent pads. But otherwise as peugeot intended.

It felt composed and controlled all day. Often road cars can feel wallow on track but it was really nice. Even with me being hamfisted with it. Kept up with and passed some serious cars too.

I do have some in car go pro footage to go through I will post this in due course. Including a massive cone killing, spin through surtees/McLaren.

Early start with alittle convoy up. Honda step wagon HQ/ brew bus, dc2 , eg civic and my business partners abarth 595.

Post sighting lap brew.

I'll add more pictures as I get them these are from later in the day wham my buddy Sam took the bps out for a stint.

Did I mention the rear end is quite mobile? laugh span the tires t lunch and was surprised to find this much rubber on the rears.

not far of single digits.

Frugal cruising home.

I'm warming to how useable modern cars are! The trick is for me to resist messing with it.

I watch these with interest, I picked up a shed 1.6d 208 last year and it's an absolutely brilliant car. It's been loaned out and everyone loves it, the benefits of it's low weight are very evident in every metre you drive.

With a bit of proper power and more focussed suspension I can well believe it's laugh out loud fun.

I had my first trackday at brands at the PH day in August, it was brilliant. A great track, even if the indy circuit isn't that long it's got a lot of fantastic corners.
How was it in the cold and damp?

it really wasnt that damp by the time we got out. and it was pretty busy, so there was a dry line by the end of the sighting laps. the other factor is my car is on bridgestone potenzas so it didnt feel slippy for me at any points really, some of the cars on track tyres and slicks were squirming around to start with so i guess it was harder for them to get the heat in. buy the afternoon the track was dry. but with the cooler airtemp keeping the cars cool.

i did leave the lap timer on in the glove box, best time i had on there was 1:00.9 however that was 2 up. i forgot to put it on when i was out on my own, and i got some really clean laps so will have a look in the footage to see is any were sub a minute. i did a 54.00 in the playstation laughlaughlaugh

ill try and sort out the footage tonight.

No been much to report on, although I seem to have knackered another front shock. The roads are bloody appalling, this year.

So I've ordered a set of Bilsteins for it. I was working away last week so had a cracking early Sunday run up to Gatwick through the back roads. It's an incredible bit of kit even on a very soggy grey Sunday morning.

First track day this year is booked in for 2nd of May at thruxton. I've got insurance for another 4 so should be a fun year.

Sorry boaring this thread compared to my normal ones!

I have fitt Bilstein B6s all round wich has hopefully fixed the the damper / top mount issue permanently.

Few pics and video from Tuesday. Nthe car was faultless all day. The Bridgestones that came on the car have finally had enough though so looking at options.

So after melting the pontezas, at thruxton

there been a relative tale of woe with tyres. I really wanted to use ad08rs on the OEM wheels. As there pretty good mix of road and track. There not too noisy or stiff but can take some heat cycling. I'm not going for out right lap time just trying to have as much fun as the budget allows.

Even though they were the same 225/40/18 as the pontezas. They were catching the steel arches and parts of the arch liners. Even after a decent tickle.

So I opted to go for 17s as that way there's much more options in track tyres. I couldnt get ad08rs in time, so ended up with MRF ZTRs. What a awesome tyre. Plus it looks angry on them.
I think I'm going to get another set of the same wheels for road/wet tyres. As I think it looks much better. As it drives much nicer. Even with the mrfs which are pretty extreme for the road.

Do need to clean the silly sickers off tho.

Looking pretty might at keevil airfield last Friday.

I've also fitted a can checked mfd15 can bus gauge. That plugs into the obd. so I can see what's happening with the temps. Really handy as let me see that the car is managing its temps really well. Even after doing a 32 lap stint. Which is probably Abit much but everything started to flow. Even the brakes were happy.
Really chuffed with how well the car is performing now.

Sorry i've been properly slack on keeping this upto date.

back in august we did a track day at bedford.  had a cracking day even in the mad temps.

fully loaded,

i had a pretty minor spin trying too hard on cold rears.  the only casualty was the arch trim.  i think the tyre probably pinged it off with full lock on and a compression over a kerb.

started to get my eye in later in the day.

I've had multiple people tell me about how much she likes to wag an inside rear.  I've finally got a photo of it!

It's such a cracking car.  She punches well above her weight on track and the road.

These are the rears after bedford.

I'd ordered some new RSL44 rear pads for it well before bedford.  but typically they didn't arrive until the day i was there.  I knew the old pads were low.  and in fact as you can see half way home finally st themselves

i've been so impressed with out the car drives on the 17's even with the track day rubber.  that i decided to bite the bullet and go for 17's for the road wheels this allows me to buy PS5's for £100 per corner instead of £180 for the awkward 205/45/18 factory sizes.

I think it looks cracking on the 17s as well but then i guess im biased

Due to the arrival of another project car she's been demoted to living outside,  and the wife is using it 2 days a week as she mostly works from home and nippers new school is a 10 min walk.

new project thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Some of you probably know from my other threads I run a vinyl wrapping business,  so for the next track day and the fact she's now out in the weather and being used a bit more.  decided to PPF the bonnet, bumper, front wings, A pillars and doors

need to get on and do the rest of it but been too busy with work and the fury.

but love the fact the PPF has a hydrophobic coating (ceramic) built in so it never wears off. This is after driving to Disneyland in September then sitting in the car park for 3 days.

who says track cars can't be practical !

I have got to say this is one of the best cars i've ever owned.  I'm really impressed with it.  yes it's had some minor mods mostly to help with temps.  and handling but takes everything in its stride.

I have quite a few videos from bedford.  and Anglesey this last weekend which i'll do an update on in the next few days when I've sorted them out.

also i should add the colour is that good in the metal. i think its as good as renaluts liquid yellow

What a car, can’t really ask for more! Quite a few fans on here, but still underrated in general, I think.

Love these, BPS versions are supposed to be fantastic things and your write up confirms this. I also spy a 5008 in your household, I have one of those for family duties, great bus for lugging kids around, my daily is a mk7 Golf GTi though, not quite as fun as your 208.

you should go for one, im really not a 'modern car guy but this little thing is an absolute riot. the only things id mark it down on is the interior is abit rattley at time but then the roads are better in north africa than round my area. and the steering is over assisted. it has feel but but it lacks real load so its quite easy to oversteer on the tyres .

thats actually the neighbours i wouldnt be seen dead ina MPV biggrin . my mrs had a ecoboost fiesta but now shes walking on the school run and only going in to work twice a week it made no sense to keep it . especially as the 208 is more than capable of being a daily! we only have one little girl so dont need anything big.

my daily is a work van so betwwen the two were covered. the fisher fury project was an indulgent perchase on my part as i miss haveing somthing to fettle .
