Audi TT 3.2 Vr6 Mk2
Discussion
I’ll start with the obligatory history, I’m a Ford guy through & through
I passed my test & bought a Mk1 Focus, it lasted a week before I met a lamp post.

I remember reading Max power back in the day & one issue had a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S, I’d grown a real liking of them & it never left so I bought one

It was a nail, a real shed, luckily it got rear ended & written off & I recieved a good payout but I always felt I had unfinished business, so I bought another

I flipping love this car, it started so much for me, I made friends for life, I found a love for spannering & doing my own repairs & modifications, found about & attended many car shows & meets, found the murky world of street racing at Hams Hall in Birmingham (I’m too old for that rubbish now though) I even ended up joining & eventually owning the infamous ZSOC.COM our night before car show escapades were amazing memories, I eventually ended up shutting it down.
After many years & modifications including a 1.7 engine transplant, Fiesta ST brakes, coilovers, full interior swap from various other Fiesta & Puma models & even a full exterior respray

As with nearly all Fords of the era, rust set in, a big rust laden MOT failure occured but I couldnt bear to part with it & so I found a storage unit, set about stripping it to a bare shell to repair the rust whilst at the same time as buying & rennovating my new home, guess which took my time & money?!
Some 5 years later its still a shell, still in my unit & a very expensive storage cupboard

I needed a runabout I had a small budget so naturally stuck with rusty Fords, this time another Mk1 Focus

It really was a terrible good car, so comfy & the heated leather seats were amazing.
Have you ever been peer pressured into buying a car? I have, the unit I put my ZS in is shared with 6 other lads, 4 of which owned Pumas, they badgered & badgered me to look for one, this came up as an ebay bargain, I won it for £160, it needed an exhaust & water pump, I had both spare from my fiesta, £20 in parts it was sorted &, I stripped & sold the interior, weighed the cat in then sold the floor mats, £110 for the lot in the end, lots of mods, a few outings at some Sunday services, and this is how it is before & as now, spot the trend…..

The Focus died, it ended up slipping a tooth whilst I stupidly was chasing an EP3, so I split it for parts & made a small relative fortune.
Stuck with a Focus as I really like them, this time an ST170 in print blue

For me, it was an achingly good looking car, I had it sitting perfect, the colour was rare & always got a good reception, I never bonded with it though, the driving position was too high, it was slow, the gear change terrible, fuel consumption was pooh & parts were expensive, DMF & clutch were over £500 at trade price for an example.
It got crashed into one day, insurance offered to write it off with no buy back or give me £750 & not record it, I chose the latter, after another 18months ish I noticed some Ford itis around the rear subframe mounting points & inside the rear wheel tubs (show me a Mk1 that doesnt go there) it wasnt the end of the world but after having a long think I reckoned it needed around £1200 of work what with the crash damage I never bothered to repair, for a 130k mileage car that really was really only worth £1500 I cut my losses & again split it for parts ( I made a lot of money breaking it)
Which leads to where I am today, I fancied a change but didnt really know what I wanted, I nearly settled for a BMW 320, but looking on ebay Mk2 TTs caught me an oh hello look so I researched & looked into them, I also always adored the R32 in Mk4 & 5 guises, the TT could give me the best of both worlds
I liked what I saw & settled on this, an early 2007, 85k fsh car, it already had a cat back exhaust fitted to bring some noise, I instantly bonded with this, with 250bhp on tap its the fastest car I’ve owned, not earth shattering by todays stamdards but enough to get me in trouble, weirdly, I have more head room (I’m 6”4) in this than my ST170
A terrible pic but a visit from a friend with his imported Sherrif crown vic

Parked like a penis as my works car park is always invaded by Uberjustdeliverooeats drivers avoiding the council parking spaces (more on that later)

A visit to A-line in Doodlayyy

The Speedline unfortunately dont fit, but if anyone sees any in 18”x9” ET53 5x112 let me know!
And thats where we are ownership wise, this thread I’ll upate with mods & work done/needed

I didnt have massive mod plans but a little fettling here & there, the first thing I did was a big detailing session, 2 days, 2 stages of machine polishing & waxing but very little photos

It needed some new mats, so I bought some, I didnt want black

Then on my way home from work one day & the aux belt & tensioner poohed itself throwing the belt & resulting in a recovery home £120 later & it was right as rain
This was the view upon opening the bonnet

The old & new tensioner

I also replaced 2 bottom pulleys

All back on the road & sorted, the birds showed their appreciation

In the first post I mentioned local to my work foo delivery drivers swarming our car park looking for empty spots guess what happened

£300 repair bill, even 2nd hand wings are still £250, so better to repair & repaint
Then an MOT failure on a failed CV boot & a snapped rear spring
I man mathed my way to a set of 30mm lowering springs, have a quik read to see how I messed up
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
So I sorted that, but it was terrible, it was a horrible ride & it started knocking its breasts off, turned out it was the top mounts

The top mounts were absolutely goosed

I also swapped the center caps to some DIY black painted jobbies
Before

After

This is how it sits now

This thing eats lightbulbs, in 18months I’ve replaced 1 main beam buld, 2x sidelight, 2 rear brake lights & an indicator bulb
Thats pretty much it so far, I have swapped the stereo to a Pioneer carplay device & swapped to interior LEDs
We’ll see what happens in the coming months

Nice write up! I've owned a couple of your cars over the years.
We've got a Mk 2 2.0T TT as our second car now. I managed to pick up a set of 19" Speedlines on FB Marketplace for £220 a couple of weeks ago & they are going in for a refurb on Monday. There are some crazy prices being asked for them, but keep your eyes peeled.
My top mounts are also knocking very slightly at parking speeds, not totally goosed yet though. Which brand did you go for? I saw Corteco on ECP for about £35.

Enjoyed that write up
pretty sure my next car will be a mk2 tt, probably a 2.0tfsi but interested to know what brand of lowering springs you put on as it sits perfect, very subtle. My last 2 cars have been Range/Land rovers and really fancy something small and fun and these really do offer fantastic value for money at the moment.

They’re great cars 99% of the time. Even my tdi has moments of fun to be had. Not as much as the TTS or the 3.2 but I’ve managed 80mpg on a motorway run when fuel prices peaked.
Do get sick of the hairdresser car comments so I bought some tacky decals in a childish protest lol
I’d be gutted about that dent mind you.

I had a 3.2 v6 very similar to yours (same wheels, but dark grey and red interior) took it from 40k to 100k over 3 years. absolutely loved my car.
It had roofbars on it to transport a canoe around, a bike in the boot, and skis in it for trips up north in winter. was actually a pretty practical car for me!
my only issue out with normal servicing I had with one of the rear lights. the wiring loom plug/ socket to the light fitting has some kind of short that cause the plug/ socket to burn out, cause issue with the rear lights. I replaced the socket which fixed the issue, but it seemed quite common from forums.

I guess an update is overdue, nothing major has happened, mostly maintenance & some lovely vandalism that some may have seen in another thread
First up was a window regulator failure & replacement, the cable fray & snap stopping the window moving bit of a faff but 30-45mins all in

The heater blowers stopped blowing, after having a read around the motor seizes so I whipped it out, lots of WD40 to free it off & some spray grease to lubricate it & all good although the free grease & WD40 air freshner wasnt the best for a week or 2

An mod!
I carbon wrapped some interior bits
Center console (ignore the ash tray weave, I didnt pay attention & didnt notice until it was put back together)

Glovebox trim

Door pulls

New wipers

After scraping through the last MOT, I’m hoarding parts, new drop links, rear lower arms, CV boot, inner & outer track rods
Then on Tuesday night some lovely person(s) decided my windscreen needed a hole in it

Its weather proofed til its replaced today, I’m currently awaiting national windscreens come & replace it

I’m not that fussed about the screen, I’d wanted a new one for a while, its scratched & pitted to hell & had a chip that I was leaving to get worse so it could be replaced & only cost me £75 on my insurance
I’m more peed off that the brick bounced onto the bonnet & has dented & scratched down to the metal so thats more bodywork to the above passenger wing damage but that seems to be my life at the moment, there’s lots of lemons being thrown my way
Has anyone got a good lemonade recipe?!
