Here I am again, another impulse buy, this time thanks to Northern Sky for posting it in the Old/Retro 0-5k thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

My last car was an e91 330D Touring, and I loved how much I could lug around. I only do short journeys now, however, so had no real need for a 3.0 diesel. I also started to get tired of automatics and wanted something manual again, while also having an itch for something JDM.

Enter - the Subaru Legacy GT-B import. The GT is a Japan only model, GT most notably having a Twin Turbo EJ208 boxer engine running around 275bhp in manual trim (which this is). Being a GT-B however, this also has Bilstein struts... though it still handles like a boat laugh

Despite the car being 22 years old, it has only done just over 53,000 miles, and less than 200 a year for the past 6 years. It shows it too, the condition of bodywork and chassis is decent for the age, but I already have a small list of jobs for it:

1. The Radio is dead - I planned to replace this anyway as it is ancient, however has a complex amp and speaker setup I need to work my head around first.
2. Oil + Filter change - last serviced 200 miles ago in 2019 - but want to change due to age
3. Fix what seems to be a heat shield rattle
4. Fix a rattle under the dash from what may be the old tracker fitted
5. Re fit the subwoofer splash guard as the plastic has snapped
6. Give it a good clean!

The thing properly goes, it's strange driving a Subaru with two turbos, I'm used to the likes of Impreza sti's so having a bit more lower end grunt is a nice change, as well as still being able to rev it out.

The only mod is a stainless steel catback, and I think I'll keep it that way, at least for now.

Thanks for reading.

Looks really nice! In the thread it mentions it was reduced in price a fair bit... any reason that you could see? Hopefully no horrors lurking & just overpriced.

Very nice!

Get a 4 channel amp, subwoofer and a pair of components and wire that to whatever headunit you buy. Saves faffing around with the standard stuff, which will sound worse.

Can be done for £150 or so if you know where to look.

That looks really good. How's the underside? I had a JDM legacy and all the suspension and subframes looked like new, unlike my current 3.0, which doesn't

Yeah, I won't bother with the standard kit, not done car audio in a few years now, so I'd like to see what my options are now!
I found this really useful; I've just fitted an Android head unit to a Gen 5 import that had the McIntosh kit fitted.

Lovely looking Legacy, congrats on the new addition and look forward to future updates! cool

As someone with a Forester 2.0XT, the comment of driving like a Subaru but handling like a boat is very true and made me chuckle hehe

I had B4 RSK in this colour, I loved it… apart from when you’re caught in the flat spot between the turbos. smile

Nice.

I had the previous version. One of the best cars I've ever owned and I still miss it.

The seats and interior look better than my 4th gen.
Bad luck with the oil change. I did something similar changing the gearbox oil on my clio.
