It appears I have joined the 996 club. 2001 C2, 39k miles, FSH. No sunroof, M030 suspension. I'll collect it in a week or so.

They've aged so gracefully. Look forward to seeing how you get on with it - from someone who has toyed with this exact leap for a while!

Congrats, that's some seriously low mileage.

Got my early 3.4 C2 at the beginning of the year and absolutely love it. Welcome to the club.

Thanks all. I’m buying it from a friend of a friend so it’s life for the last 5 years is known. I had it to use last weekend and immediately felt at home.

Got a few plans, retro fit cruise and obc. Relocate the AC to the bottom and fit a double DIN with Apple CarPlay.

Then just enjoy!

Lovely cars, their time will come!
I had a base spec C2 from 1999 and it was lovely, took it from 110K to around 135K over a couple of years in 2011 and can still remember the smell of the interior!

Felt very fast and planted after new suspension and fresh tyres, even though it was the base car felt plenty fast enough for me.

We took the same leap last September. We picked up a 3.4 C2 in seal grey with Aero Kit. Every drive is an event and the wife and I love it.

Enjoy.

Take your time with the AC relocate and double din. Lots of people find the lower console a bit intrusive and remove it - you don't have that option if you have a double din stereo. I personally find a decent headunit with Bluetooth and a good phone mount does the job very nicely. Not as integrated, but also much less intrusive when I just want music without nav.

Continental do a very nice period looking headunit with Bluetooth.

That looks a peach and the sort of desirable spec everyone wants!

It’s odd. The two things I was worried about were the grey interior and the talked about lack of leg room. And I’ve not had any sort of problem with either having spent a weekend with the car.

If it works for you then excellent! Also it's a nightmare to get the console for a grey interior (ask me how I know...) so for the best.

Nice motor OP! Looks very much like mine, same wheels, dark blue (ocean met), grey sports interior, M030 and also no sunroof! However mine is an early 98 build car and is triple the mileage! biglaugh

I bought a 43k mile 996C2 last year to use as our family hack. It too has the M030 suspension which I binned immediately as I found it way too harsh. The dashboard creaked and the car was skipping over the road. Not pleasant at all.

Speaking to the guys at Centre Gravity they suggested that M030 needs lots more miles to loosen up. I ripped the lot out and replaced with Koni Special Actives, standard springs and an aggressive geo. The car is transformed and it now a brilliant road car.

That’s interesting. The previous owner only fitted the M030 (all genuine) about 5k miles ago. I was pleasantly surprised how compliant it is, no skipping at all. It had a full geo setup at the same time.

Looks grand OP.

It’s nice buying cars that you know at least some of the history.

I've got new m030 which I fitted myself and the ride is very good at high speeds, pretty rubbish at town speeds but it is what it is. Make sure the anti roll bars are m030 too they make a big difference to the handling.
